What did you do in the garden today?

Good morning gardeners. Happy Fathers Day to all you Dads out there. It's a tradition in my little family to include single Moms on Fathers Day. Single parents have to fulfill both parenting roles sort of like double duty. So a big shout out to other single parents today. The rain has finally moved out. We got nearly 1 1/2 inches of rain altogether. I wasn't able to get to the high garden yesterday but I went there this morning and put the eggshells around the lima beans. I also put some around the baby bok choy. Everything is looking very good this morning. More of the fingerling potato plants are getting flower buds. The leeks look amazing. I really need to get some more straw on them both. I think the warm up this week will really set off a growth spurt for the heat loving plants. I still need to take it a bit easy today. My knees have improved but still achy. I really overdid it on the heavy lifting. I learned to lift with my legs and not my back. My back is fine, just the legs are feeling it. LOL!

Spent the last three hours marking, setting and sewing pleats in a skirt for a dress.
Letting the rain from the other day ride the watering schedule in the garden today, although I will turn on the deep irrigation for the orchard for 30 minutes (instead of 60).
Walked, weeded, and tied up plants in the garden last night.
I think we're days from our first cucumber.

Must refill the hummingbird feeders or risk angry needle noses on the Ring camera.

trying to pass laws about taking in bird feeders for the summer. Because people leave their feeders out the bear are too used to seeing humans & are now breaking into houses every couple weeks. & there is no where to relocate to so they have to euthanize them.

:tongue Yep, people cause the problems and the animals, once again, pay the ultimate price.

:clapWe had a neighbor that had a bird feeder out in her yard, but a bear found it. So, she did the right thing, took down the bird feeder, and notified the neighbors of a potential problem. It is great that we were able to work together to keep the neighborhood safe and not leave anything outside to invite the bears to eat.

It's a harmless black rat snake. They will eat eggs and baby chicks. The coop where it was found has juvenile chickens about 8 weeks old now. Too big to become dinner and too young to be laying. I do have mice in the coops (bane of my existence) so I'm guessing that's what she was after.

I put down some scent deterrent around the coops tonight. Supposed to get bad storms so it will likely wash away but hoping the snake takes the hint. The blackberry patch is 500 ft from the coops so maybe it will work. We usually take the snakes miles away to release them but couldn't do that tonight...
Rat snakes eat COPPERHEADS!

Keep it!
