What did you do in the garden today?

Yesterday I had to get a new water heater, told the plumber's assistant that I wanted the cardboard box it came in.
When I bought an extra large dog crate to use as a chick brooder, I asked if they had one with the box in good shape, ie, not all torn and taped together. They got it out of the back store room for me.

I used the box to line the crate so the chicks can't escape through the bars. It helps contain the dust too.

So muggy and hot! We had a shower this afternoon that was welcome.
Picked some tomatoes this morning.

Also picked some purple hull peas.

When I ordered my raised bed kits I used the shipping boxes to line the bottom of the beds.

I mowed a big chunk of the yard today. There are lots of grass clippings laying around that would be a nice addition to my compost pile.

But I just don't have the energy to rake them and haul them to the pile. Might be one of the last times I have to mow this summer. It's dry here and hit 96 degrees today. Even the weeds were wilting in the yard.

And even without watering the tomatoes and squash a couple days ago, they are looking good and not wilting. Must be plenty of moisture in the garden beds.

Are your tomato and squash beds close to the clippings? I've used them as mulch in the past. This year they wind up in the chicken run.
