What did you do in the garden today?

Watered 2 out of 3 of the gardens. Harvested 3 more spaghetti squash. Put up another cattle panel archway between 2 raised beds ( one of the beds doesn’t even have any compost or soil in it yet. 😂). Spread 2 more bags of mulch over cardboard for walkways between raised beds. Picked blackberries.
@jerryse I am trying to root a pear tree branch. I cut off the outer branch covering and then wrapped damp spagnum moss around it and then wrapped it with plastic wrap and secured with zip ties. Any idea if that will grow roots?
I also harvest 1 cherry tomato. 🤣
It should work but I have not tried it on pear. Bear in mind if it does work it will be a standard size tree. Many use the invasive flowering pear that pops up everywhere as a rootstock for grafting onto. Makes a smaller than standard size tree.

Heavy rain this morning!! ❤️

Garden will be happy! I did have to water one bed yesterday mid-day bc many wilting squash. They perked up after some water meaning the wilt was not due to anything else.

Yesterday I shredded as much summer squash as I could fit in my largest bowl. Shredded some onion, added Parmesan cheese, spices, eggs, flour and made 40+ squash fritters to freeze for later. This has worked well bc there is mostly squash in the fritters.

Ground Cherries - with all this talk about them, I looked them up, and my “weird looking tomatillos” are actually ground cherries!! I bought a 3-pack of tomatillo starts from the farm store- but, these are ground cherries. Luckily, we have several volunteer tomatillo plants from last year. I had started 3 varieties of tomatillos but they all died bc of my terrible starting mix which killed most of my starts. So now I have a few random tomato cages among my squash and potatoes protecting these volunteers. Now I need to find some ground cherry recipes!
We have ground cherries growing flippin' EVERYWHERE here. The alpacas like them and are leaving the seeds around.

1.87 inches of rain yesterday.
Not complaining.
Ponds still dry, so livestock still need water hauled. But the extra water is waking up the alfalfa. Corn and soy are looking better, well, the stuff that wasn't flatted by two inch hail last week, or the 80mph winds the week before.
About to walk the garden. I know I have berries and cherry tomatoes out there to grab.

I will keep this in mind for a GF pizza crust for me. I bet DH wouldn't even taste it, but he's not hampered by gluten issues.

If you make it again and it's better, please post about that and what you changes you made.
You can make gluten free pizza crust from shredded cauliflower mixed with eggs and shredded parmesan , you shred it into rice size pieces and mix it with above ingredients, bake it in the oven

  • ▢ 2.5 lbs medium-large (6" – 7" wide) head of cauliflower 2 lbs of store bought cauliflower rice
  • ▢ 1 large egg
  • ▢ 1 tsp Italian seasoning or dried oregano/basil
  • ▢ 1/8 tsp salt
  • ▢ 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • ▢ 1/2 cup Parmesan or Mozzarella cheese grated/shredded
  • Cooking spray

Another tropical day here. I slept a little late this morning so I got a late start doing garden work. I picked more kale and lettuce and finally picked the volunteer red onion growing in the SM tomato bed. Bambi stopped by again this morning around 4:15. The bird netting worked and no sign of munching in that garden. The lima beans are starting to bloom. I put tomato cages on the summer squash plants in the three sisters bed. I only planted 4 plants - 2 yellow squash and 2 zucchini. Apparently I dropped a seed because there’s a 5th squash coming up. I won’t know what it is until I get squash from it. I’m hoping 5 cages are enough to deter the deer from jumping into that garden patch. I need to get the bird netting hung around it. I also need to do a little weeding and hilling. So hard to get much done with the heat and humidity. I’m going to try working on the weed whacking in a little bit. Fingers crossed I can get that done.
