What did you do in the garden today?

Ya, sigh. I'd mow it in and let it cycle down.
It's frustrating.
We can't loose this. This field gives us 80-100 bales on a good year with 70% of that from the first cutting.
Last year, a drought year, got us 55 bales, no second cutting.
This year we'll be lucky to get 25, no second cutting expected either.
Rounds? Or large squares? I put in regular 50-60lb bales.

Around here plowing under or chaff a field of alfalfa isn’t really an option, we can always get a 3rd and many times a 4th cut. Need to remove what’s there to let it grow up again.

Such misery trying to get hay in. Well it’s will think good thoughts for you - and here is hoping next year is a more normal year for you 💕

Sorry for all the hay issues all. But I gotta tell ya, if I was in charge of haying I'd be charging $500 a bale because it is THE worst job ever! :gig

Watered the garden, wildflowers & all, but not too deep. Just enough so this rain on its way will sink in. Skies are getting dark. Heat advisories are already issued. :sick

ETA: all jars of jam froze just fine. :yesss:

The laugh is for the hay comment 😁, past two years I had to put it up with help from my family - usually I purchase and have them put it up for me. But next to impossible to get small squares and absolutely impossible to get anyone to put them up if you can.

My garden is flourishing with all the rain here! No veggies but lots of flowers - my fruit trees blossoms got hit by an extremely late heavy frost, so no pears, peaches, cherries or plums this year.

Beautiful cantaloupe. Nice lacing on the skin! When I was a kid we'd get a half cantaloupe filled with vanilla ice cream for a special treat from Grandma!

And if cantaloupe was eaten plain it was always with some salt and black pepper. Salt and pepper really go well with cantaloupe.
