What did you do in the garden today?

With all this talk about preserving tomatoes I'll share my method.

1. Wash whole tomatoes
2. Place whole tomatoes in freezer bag
3. Toss bag of tomatoes into chest freezer
4. Remove as needed, for whatever I want to cook.

The tomatoes are already in a nice airtight wrapping (the skin) so there's no freezer burn. And fresh tomatoes freeze well without the need to blanch.

Some info on this? I googled and got a lot of different things, cheesecloth to nylon bags.
https://www.simplyciderpresses.com/accessories/pressing-bags/#judgeme_product_reviews nylon mesh bag. A brew bag might also work never tried one. I got mine years ago with my Garden Way cider press. Do not put these in the washing machine as it destroys them. A large Screen wire strainer might also work. Someone posted a video of using a screen wire strainer and pushing it into the juice and dipping out the clear juice. I put my bag into a 10 quart stainless steel pot and pour juice in. Go easy on squeezing the bag as you can force pulp through the mesh.

HOT HOT HOT
I have a couple rows of hay being difficult, the overnight fog and dew, and daytime transpiration and humidity aren't helping.
I respread the deepest rows (grass hay, so not worried about breakage/leaf loss)
I'll go out about 130/2pm to retest it and putting it back into windrows.
Come in and cool off and then go out about 5 and bale it.
Come in and cool off and then go haul and stack it.

Nothing going on in the garden. DH turned the water system on for me this morning.
NOTHING is doing anything in these temperatures and this humidity (apparently but me).

DH missed a dead chicken, how? I have no idea, in the the henhouse when he opened the door this morning. She was a LARGE white leghorn. She'd been there all night. She's been sneaky sick for two weeks. She was aging out (production breeds don't live long, and I won't get them again.) I've had more trouble with the production breeds than any other breed combined. So she's down in the lower woods for the coyotes/vultures.

Anyway, that's all the news from the Central Convection Oven.

Possible severe t-storm here, so I'm staying inside. The air was/is hazy with wildfire smoke, and my upper chest hurts anyway.

I did move my garlic into the garage. High winds are one of the dangers. Not that high, but enough to flip the garlic table over if the wind caught it just right. Not taking any chances with my garlic.

I checked the garden this morning. It seems the only pest problem I'm having is with my zinnias. Lace bugs, I think. I'm not sure if I should spray them. I'd rather the zinnias get eaten up that have my veggies get eaten.

I picked a nice little mess of green beans again, just enough for a big helping. Wish I had some bacon grease to saute them in. That would be good.

I dug up all my garlic, 9 plants, a few weeks ago. I'm going to eat the small ones. The large ones I'll separate this fall and plant for next year's crop.
