What did you do in the garden today?

Those look great! Are they good to eat?
I love them raw when they are still tender. They are slightly sweet and a bit nutty. They are OK cooked, preferably in a stir fry. They mush up in liquid, so not good for soups. Once the beans start to develop well, the pod becomes too bitter for fresh eating. I've never eaten the dried beans, but you certainly could if you like. They are kidney bean sized. I grow them to nibble on in the garden, to fix nitrogen, to draw pollinators and hummingbirds, and to add vertical interest and shade.

Yeah, I have gotten exactly 3 zucchinis to date, but the plant is very healthy - all by itself - so I am hoping that I will get more zucchinis from the plant before the end of summer. It's one of my favorite vegetables.
Yeah my plants are healthy too so that’s so weird. Although I did pick two today.

I was grumpy yesterday. Tired, hungry, aches and stress are the triggers and I had all 4. Put the finish on closet door. Made pickling solution for some fish. DW was getting on my nerves and I told her not a good idea after yesterday. You would think she would know after 50 + years.
I was right there with you, although I was triggered by excess pollen and smoke in the air. Once I realized I was spiraling because I couldn't breathe properly, I sprayed up, and sat down for a bit.

In my case, I planted the zucchini seeds very late, maybe mid-June. In the past, I have bought veggie 6-packs of zucchini at the nursery. But this year, for some reason, nobody had any zucchini when I was looking for them. To be more specific, they did not have the 6-pack of zucchini starts, only the much bigger plant in a much larger pot for $$$. I opted to plant my own seeds, even late, and get what I get. Next year I'll start zucchini seeds indoors myself. Live and learn.

BTW, my local nurseries had a very poor selection of veggies in 6-packs this year. I don't ever remember such a slim selection of plants. It was very disappointing.

Late this past winter, I made a 4-level seed starting shelf with LED shop lights and put it in our spare bathroom. I started a small variety of tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. My starts turned out much better than I hoped for, so next year I'm going to increase the number and variety of starts.

:smackDear Wife was not too happy when I took over that bathroom for 2 months at the end of the winter, but she sure is enjoying the food we are getting this year from those starts. She is onboard with me using the second bathroom again next year and already has her list of plants to start! :hugs

That’s so weird about the selection! Around here there was tons of selection. I ended up buying mine too because my seeds didn’t sprout or even germinate. But yet my plants took off and my yellow squash plant is HUGE. And that sounds awesome!! I wish I had the room for that. Next year I’ve decided I’m just going to buy plants. Well, was originally my dad’s idea, I still kinda wanted to start mine, but now I’m on board because it’s sooooo much work to start them and most of my sprouts ended up dying anyways. 😭 I bought most of my plants this year anyway because of it. So not much different hah

I unpacked the gardening books from my mom's house and put them in the bookshelf tonight. Lots of interesting titles to keep me entertained over the winter...

I explained to DH about why I can't go on vaca with him fromafter April 1st, to the end of October. I have to take care of the plants, I have to process the veg, or I have to clean up the garden for the next year. He grumbled a bit until he saw how much work it all was, and how good it all tasted.

Not to mention how much $$ we saved and better we ate.
