What did you do in the garden today?

I have black Krims ripening. Are they good tasting?
Over the years I have tried quite a few different heirlooms. So far Black Krim is DH and my fav! I only have a couple on the counter now. They will not be wasted! I also have lots of jars canned!
It has a certain twang to it we love.

I gave my FIL a couple plants this year. In-laws love them too. MIL says it tastes like what her Daddy grew. She doesn't have a name for those but says it was a dark tomato.

So I save seed from these each year to make sure I have them.

I’m sure! Carrots hate heat/getting dry -especially when young. Beets, also don’t love heat, but seems really variety dependent as to whether they will be woody or not. We combat the drying out by planting carrots between beans or beets usually. They get a little shade and are not on the edge of any bed, so less likely to dry out. We also mulch with straw.

I tried many things to grow cool season crops in late spring but with humidity 0 they bolt straight away.

OK, who wants some comic relief?

DH and I are away on vacation. While we are gone, our 2 youngest kids are watching our house and taking care of the animals. This morning my daughter found a rat snake hiding in the duck coop.

Hilarity ensues... PLEASE BE AWARE THIS VIDEO HAS SOME FOUL LANGUAGE!

Note - my son doesn't talk like this normally... 😂

I put the cushaw in the garage, and will move it to the basement this week where it is cooler and dry.
The SVB got the vine. It was healthy THEN BOOM, two days later, the whole vine is dead. 130 days of growing, so it might be mature enough.
We shall see.
I found some cushaw seeds in my mom's house. I've never grown them before. Maybe I'll try next summer....

The foul language happens right after they dump the bucket. 😂

Yeah, my son always wants to shoot everything. 🙄 Thankfully everyone else talks him out of such nonsense. I did have to have him shoot a sick coon (distemper) and a skunk trying to get my chickens earlier this summer.

But typically we don't shoot snakes unless it's a poisonous one that could pose immediate harm to people or animals.
