What did you do in the garden today?

I've picked up mine on sale from Hobby Lobby for just a few dollars but I've also seen them at Walmart, Target, and Michaels. I believe at Christmas time last year, Amazon also had them marked down pretty low around $10-$15 or so. I paid way less than that though and severely try to limit what I buy from Amazon since most of their stuff is cheap junk.

Thanks. We have both a WalMart and Target. I seldom go to either store, but I'll have to write down that info so next time I do go there I will look for those plastic cases. Thanks.

OK, if you know, you know.....
Today's treasure at my little village thrift shop. $1.50
and entire drawer of someone's grandma's handwritten recipes. Some go back to 1920s.
I AM drooling going through these.... some interesting ones in there that might be of interest here
Strawberry Pine apple jam
Lime Daq pie
And tomato preserves
Lots of zuke recipes
JUST wow... most modern thing I've seen is 1984

Breaks my heart to know someone just threw this at the thrift shop. Glad I snagged it.

I have a tomato problem that I haven't found an answer for online. My tomatoes are rotting AT THE TOP, by the stem. A lot of them have "green shoulder" which is actually yellow, in this case. I understand that can be from a lack of foliage coverage, aka, sunscald.

But why do so many of them start to rot there? The rest of the tomato isn't even fully ripe yet!
That's sunscald that weakens the top and then a fungus sets in.

I have seen similar damage caused by sun scald. It happens no matter the degree of ripeness.

I have some old window screen I will use to shade clusters of tomatoes during the heat of summer. This will allow them to get ripe before they burn. I only shade fruit that does not have enough foliage cover. The screen makes the sun less harsh but still let's light through.

If you zoom in you can see it on these 2 plants.

I really can't believe the things people toss out. If these were my grandmother's I would not part with them for anything!

I am the sentamental type and this is part of someone's history. Just the hand writing alone would be precious to me.
What a wonderful and interesting find!
