What did you do in the garden today?

we finally got some rain. still not enough but it should be raining all day today and tomorrow. in north greece there was a biblical catastrophe yesterday. my friend's farm got damaged and she lost a lot of guinea fowl and some other birds. her house was at risk as well but luckily it stopped raining at night. forecast says it will rain again today so :fl

Forecasted rain did not happen. No rain in the next 5 days. Late planted okra is producing. Another pink banana squash has set and growing. Heat wave is over. Only about 80 today and then some mid 70's. Made pumpkin bread with my last pint of home canned pumpkin. New crop will be canned. I can chunks or cubes as recommended. If I shake the jar before opening it is puree.

G’morning all. I wish Fall would start here! We have a few days over 110 this week and then it’s supposed to cool down next weekend. Hopefully I’ll have energy enough to get some stuff accomplished then. We didn’t get anything done over the holiday weekend because we all have/had covid :barnieDaughter got it from a coworker who had been to Hawaii on vacation; in just a few days it had spread to all of us but the teenager. He never got it the first time around either. I’ve had enough energy to water and keep stuff alive, but that’s about the extent of it. Hope all of us that need rain get some soon! We got a whopping .2” out of the last storm so we need a LOT more.

The blueberry jam I made the other day turned out too runny so I opened them all up and te cooked them. Now they are too thick.
I had some jam that didn't set, so I used it as syrup.

Some that was too thick got used as ... just really thick jam. It was great on pancakes instead of syrup.

Sorry you've been sick. No fun at all!

Supposed to be near 100 today and really hot the next couple days. :(
Next week more reasonable high 80's.

I'm also so ready for fall.

I used to make Christmas jam for my coworkers and neighbors and had a batch that didn’t set so I gave it as syrup instead. Nobody knew the difference and I got requests for it the next year lol.

Thanks, it’s certainly not enjoyable but it’s not too bad really. Me and hubs are “high risk” for complications so we’re taking the antiviral. Compared to the first time I had it, the drugs seem to help.

Fall not here yet, all of next week temperatures around 80 forecast, and I’m in the hospital and can only send son messages to irrigate the plants 🙏🏻 since he doesn’t reply, I fear the worst 😬 hubby is also of no use at all in that department, he comes from the tribe of, less is more, concerning plants, and is only good at killing them by stepping on them, breaking them off while passing through or drowning them ( either that or the no water at all method 🙄) my younger daughter came by this weekend and told me all the peaches were rotting away 😢 ( nobody picked them) at least she ate some ripe tomatoes and an apple, it seems to be the worst time for the garden for me to be missing 😩
Hope you’re home soon! What a shame your hard work has gone to waste this year.

Good luck to your friend, sorry about the bird losses. I hope the house is ok.
