What did you do in the garden today?

Nothing in the garden.
I walked my old hen out for her morning stroll in the garden when a young Cooper's hawk shot out of the bird bath. So much for letting her roam the garden today.
I finally found out how the sparrows are getting in the run yesterday and fixed that.
I'll gut the last two tomato plants down this afternoon and toss them over the fence to the hens.

Sewed 2 hours this morning, about to grind this week's flour and put in a pie. Maybe I'll get some custard in the freezer for ice cream this weekend.
That's about it.

No gardening today. I put the base frame together for the new chicken coop. That went pretty quick. I’m at a work stoppage on that right now. The shed kit doesn’t have vertical supports on it. Since the backside of the shed will be up against the garage wall I need to attach the siding to the back of the shed then slide it up onto and then back on the foundation. Then I have to finish installing the siding before I can install the floor frame. Good grief. I won’t be able to go get the cinder blocks until next week. Oh well. I can work on the additional support framing from the inside. As long as it is all done and properly supported before the snow starts falling I’m fine. The long range prediction for this winter is a lot of snow. I want to make sure the roof of both the coop and run will be able to handle the snow load. Tomorrow morning I’ll be heading to the garden to pick a few tomatoes and whatever else I can find. It looks like I will get another cucumber or two before the temperatures dip into the 40’s overnight next week.

I see another banana baby coming out. I think caring for 1 banana plant is better than caring for several. Last year I had seven banana plants spread out in a row and got only one banana fruit bunch from each plant at any given time. They never did put out 3 banana fruit bunches like this before.

I try to keep only 3 banana plants or suckers in one planting area. I used more fertilizer and water this time around. The dying papaya plant next to the banana plant couldn't handle the amount of fertilizer I spread out.

The one thing I like about banana plants is they can handle any amount of fertilizer I use. They seem to like it extreme. I have killed a lot of plants by over fertilizing, but I have never killed a banana plant.
