What did you do in the garden today?

I am asking for some feedback on a box of 100 6"X 10" pint vacuum seal bags on sale at Meanrds. Specifically, looking for advice on if the pint size is big enough. Seems to be a popular size on Amazon, but we are just starting to use the vacuum sealer.

I hear an owl hooting outside. How cool is that?

Pretty dang cool, IMO. :)

Today I'm going to go to a friend's house to do some yardwork. She pays me, we chat, I do something I enjoy doing that she hates to do.
If a box shows up in the post with a bunch of holes in it, I've sent you a hooting present. I'm up to my eyeballs in owls.

With the hard freeze coming tonight (although I think the lake will help spare us at my place) I hit the local orchard and picked another 5 gallon bucket of apples, Evercrisps. These are a late, and long storing apple, so I'll put them in a loose bag in the fridge with a damp bit of toweling and we'll eat these fresh.

The Pink Lady apples aren't even ready to pick, but they'll be fine through a short frost. THey had tons of squask available to pick and I KNOW they'll be busy all weekend, so I was trying to beat the last rush. I don't do screaming children.

A bunch of yardwork, cold weather prep yesterday and today. I now have a grumpy disk so I need to behave for a couple days. The cold isn't helping with the aches and crunchies.

Too small.
IMHO. The machines need a couple of inches inside the machine for it to properly grab and seal, leaving room for only one serving of something in the part being sealed.

I prefer the rolls.

I pulled up the last dozen bean vines and threw them to the chickens. Got a small handful of yellow wax beans to have in my supper salad. Need to go out and pull up a couple of carrots, cut some kale, parsley and turnip greens, pick a small green pepper, some chives, and an onion. Should be tasty. Miight even add a few fresh herbs.

I noticed that a lot more of the carrot and leaf lettuce seeds I planted a while back are sprouting. Might be a little late in the season for them, but just have wait and see what happens.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be checking out those bags tomorrow, but they probably have larger sizes and maybe rolls as well. These pint-sized bags just happen to be on sale this coming week.

It allows all the cloves to developed stronger roots and you get more garlic.
Very interesting! I found a video describing the method too. But I guess I don't understand why you'd do that instead of just separating the garlic cloves when the head is dry and planting them. Does the water jug method give them a head start?

I picked and snapped 10 quarts of green beans. My “weekend” is over back to work tomorrow afternoon. My wife will process them tomorrow. I think between all the tomatoes we have in the window sill and the ones we have in the freezer we should have a roaster full to do another batch of sauce as well.

Forecast shows temperatures dipping into to 30’s at night so this might be the end of season for everything but the kohlrabi. It’s a bittersweet time of year trying to get all the harvest we can but ready for it to be over.

Our high was in the low 60’s and our lows are in the low 40’s.
Made it out to the church garden. Found 5 ripe tomatoes and a few more with a blush that I picked. Picked 27 Cheyenne peppers and a bunch of smaller green peppers ( but still big enough to make stuffed green peppers)!
Still have a lot of green tomatoes in the plants as well as green Cheyenne peppers, jalapeños and some green bell peppers.

Then went and spent some time with this cutie!🥰
Hubby and I went to try to finish installing the bathroom light/exhaust fan at the rental house and look at the lights & outlets in the main bedroom ( tenant texted last night to say they weren’t working when she got home from work).
Well we fixed it alright! 🤣🤣Now half of the house doesn’t have power. 😂🤣
We have an electrician friend coming out in the morning so hopefully he can fix it. 🤞
Did I say I don’t want to be a landlord??
I really, really don’t want to be a landlord!!

I hear you about the landlord stuff 🙄 after my father died, we inherited half an apartment, where our aunt is renting 😬 I think the past decade, we have put more money in than gotten .. at first, our aunt was also complaining about all the stuff she wanted done ( like a broken tile in the bathroom, doorbell didn’t work) did I mention we live about 450 km away ?! Anyways, we reduced rent, over the years almost everything got made new or renovated ( balcony, windows, roof, siding, elevator) since it’s a house with 8 renters, it gets decided among all owners what is to be done 😓 thank God my sister attends these meetings, they go way into the night….🤪 after all these years, our aunt has finally realized we are not there to rip her off but we just try the best we can, but should she ever pass on, the first thing I’m doing is getting rid of my half 😅
