What did you do in the garden today?

Ugh, trying to get up the motivation to run more vinidex pipe, clean the house as well since Midori and Green Fairy don't mix too well. No more of that for me. I have someone coming around 1pm to pick up a heap of quail so I'm kinda excited about that since I can finally move the noisy boys in the garage out to the coop. At least it's kinda overcast today and I won't be sweatin' too bad.

Does anyone know what kind of tree this is? Thinking of putting the pigs in this area & wondering if the nuts would be ok for them to eat.

Hickory nuts

Well I finally got around to installing the pipe so the shed has water. All it needs is a toilet/shower now LoL. It was grueling picking through roadbase and limestone but I eventually got it done and what I loved most was that vinidex pipe was flexible enough that I didn't need many joins at all.

All the kratkies are going really well and I can see a little baby squash in the 100L tank. I'm hoping squash doesn't use that much water but we'll see. Some of the sunflower seedlings are a no show but the royal velvets have really taken off. I wonder if the other seeds are bad. The chillies are coming along and I wonder if that's a little bit of color I see on the twilight rainbow variety.

My poor viet mint is all wrapped up in cobwebs. Maybe that'll be sundays task. Getting around to spraying everything down with rosmary oil. I also want to plant these charlestone grey seedlings directly in the beds. I like the fact they seem resistant to a lot of things including sunburn and being down under I very much like that. I also do have some normal crimson sweet seedlings that might join the greys for comparisons sake.

Your Kratky stuff is looking good! How do the squash fare? Well by the looks of it!

I found Hoocho’s video on dragon fruit, I’m going to see if I can find scoria today. I know the local nursery has the sand, hoping they have the pebbles too!

Yep! They are going great! I'm actually really looking forward to them as it's not a vegetable I eat often and I really love the texture when it's cooked. I was going to get some scoria for one of the wicking beds but the bags bunnings have get a terrible rap online and I even found an opened bag there and it was chalky crap! I need to get some dragonfruit cuttings soon. I really want to try them all. There's an asian food market nearby and I wonder if they might stock them.

That would be the easiest way to get them! I was looking for a different variety online and actually found some on Amazon. I didn’t buy them though, my luck with live plants has been iffy. Maybe Etsy but I’m going to check our Asian market first.

The property adjacent to mine has a nice size walnut tree that drops black walnuts on my property. The tree seems to drop more walnuts on my side of the property line, than theirs:yesss:

So, this is the first year we are harvesting these walnuts to process and store the black walnuts, as well as to make a black walnut tincture.
I didn't see a follow up to this regarding how to harvest. Since I have recently have had the fruit landing in my backyard identified as black walnuts, I am going to try to harvest them.

This appears to be a helpful site:

What varieties do you have if you don't mind me asking? I was going to try the red skinned white flesh fruit and then the red skinned red flesh fruit and I know there's also a yellow variety. One thing I didn't take pictures of was my passionfruit kratky which is going really well. I like passionfruit quite a bit but can never seem to grow it that well. I'm curious to see how much it drinks in the heat.
