What did you do in the garden today?

Planted my paw paw tree, and planted my 2nd ginko tree.

But the most of the work involved ripping weed block fabric.:he @Sally PB

I am so ready for those cooler temps to get here, I wore sunblock but I’m still a bit pink on my shoulders and I was soaked when I came in. Made more progress on the new garden, but one of the bed kits is incomplete. I didn’t realize how badly damaged the box is, so I’ll have to call the manufacturer. I think it has been too long for me to get any resolution from them, but I’m calling anyway. If they don’t replace the panels we can still use the corners to make a small round bed, but that’s all on me I think :he I am on a very low sodium diet because of my ears (avoiding water retention to prevent vertigo). If any of you have to watch your sodium levels, I’ve been using a product called Lyte Show in my water when I’m outside. It replaces electrolytes without added sodium and it’s pretty awesome. I have been able to avoid heat exhaustion and still stay out there working for a few hours. The taste is like slightly salty lemon water but I hardly even notice it.

I'm nursing a cold this weekend, but I did look at the turnips and carrots when I checked on the flock.

Nice! Don't you have a problem with turnip root maggots? Every time I grow them the roots get infested with the little worms. I should've kept them under a floating row cover. And now it's too late because they are in the soil. No turnips for me next year.

I suspect they got into my horseradish too. It was growing great for a while, then it just quit growing. I'll dig some out one of these days to check.

I didn't have issues with insects this spring, and I am not planting in the same bed. Hopefully it will be okay.
