What did you do in the garden today?

I guess everyone went to bed. However, being a night owl, i am wide awake! First thing tomorrow i am calling the post office to see if my keets are there! So excited! I really need to get my potted plants in the ground even if i just dig a hole and plunk pot and all in. It is just too hard to get enough water in them this way. The sunflowers and peas i planted are doing well along the fence but one plant in one of the raised bed is drying up and never had any peas! I am going to be really sad if i don't get peas. Maybe i can buy some fresh ones somewhere. Last ones i bought were underdeveloped so not much to eat from them. All of the morning glory plants look good, even the one the dog ground into the dirt with her stick! And no i didn't fall today, but i left my purse in the doctors office. Luckily i woke up by the time i got to the car. Then i could not find my keys or my dollar store bag. The joys of getting old.

you want morning glory it is not native to Washington state and some won't say it brought it up here invasive been fighting it to die for 2 1/2 years here :lau:confused:

This morning I took my coffee and the dogs to the garden to open the duck pen. I had taken my insulin before going outside. Got sidetracked by some crab grass in the onions and saw several tomato plants that needed to be tied up because they were weighted to the ground by fruit. Needless to say, I began getting pretty dizzy...got inside and sugar had dropped to 49!!
Got that up by drinking cranberry juice and a Glucerna shake. So stupid of me to get sidetracked. but I do love a tidy garden.

Took care of the chickens making sure there was fresh water and gave them the trimmings from the pickles and tomatoes from dinner last night.

Then I pickled the senfgurken that had brined overnight. This tasty easy recipe is a great way to use those older football sized cucumbers. The chickens get the insides and skins and the flesh makes a great pickle. I couldn't find fresh horseradish at the grocery so used some peppery tasting radishes instead.

Now I"m headed back outside to the garden to move the sprinkler and to check the beets to see if any are ready for pickling.

So far i put the new roof on the Mule, made lunch, and cleaned three 50 gallon containers full of weeds and leaves out of the pasture where the chickens will go. 90 degrees, feels like 97. It was supposed to be even hotter. My morning glories were wilting a bit so i soaked them down. Time for a break and then back at it.

The foundation for the coop is in finally! Base plates screwed together with extra support down center of floor. Using plenty of lumber to keep it heavy, so not cemented into the ground. Digging deep footings in the clay is not happening.

Harvested lots of beans, cukes, greens for the chicks. HE fed lunch so now he's napping. I'm having one of my meaty Cherokee Purple toms o my sandwich. Oh my! Love those !

My cherry, grape and black cherry mini-toms are still setting fruit in near 100 degree temps, as is the big Heatmaster, and I think the Mortgage Lifter. The rest are mostly blooming, but I don't see any new fruit set. Oh well, I canned more sauce and whole tomatoes already, and made several jars of pico de gallo. Next up will be picante salsa and more whole tomatoes. My okra is finally getting really cranking. Cukes keep hiding from me and HE. Harvested every day, yet I keep finding one or sometimes two huge honkers overdue for the basket. More cantaloupe setting. I think giving them a tiny bit of afternoon shade was a good call. Working on the coop mostly, as my 25 girls are growing like my Bermuda grass!

@wyldflwr So sorry! :hugs Heal up and please be careful.

Tee hee, my husband gets frustrated because I don't ask for help. My right side has had issues for years too, but my insurance deductible is $6000 so I can't do anything about it for now.
