I mowed a clear strip around the garden shed path. I'm sure my mower guy thinks I'm a slob for letting it get so overgrown, but it's an area that holds water, so the more green the less mud, is the way I see it. Plus, the chooks love foraging in the long grass for insects etc. My smallest Araucana pullet is lightning fast at catching white moths, so not much else stands a chance.
So, after mowing, I was headed back to the house with the dog and his broom when a commotion broke out from the sister Araucana pullet who somehow managed to get herself up on the dome BBQ. Beneath her is my rainwater tank - my dog's shell pool, and the only direction she can take to get a clear landing. All the other chickens stood in silence watching her. I could hear my sweet Pekin Joannie hoping the pullet would end up doing laps. Betty and Susie looked bored, probably thinking, oh hurry up and jump you goose! Me and the dog stood motionless watching her weigh up the odds of flying over the pool. Then, after getting everyone's attention, cool as a cucumber, she launched and flew the length of three pools or more! lol
