I use an old fishing net to catch chickens.

The Luffa vine must have finally found the layer of chicken poop under it. No growth for months. Last two days it's grown 3 feet in all directions.

The chicken poop really makes things grow! I have a plum and apricot tree inside the run and boy have they grown within the past year. Same with the climbing roses I have on the fence and the hostas inside the run. I don't think you can kill hostas.

Oh I could kill em. Or rather, AZ could lol. Do hostas become invasive? I would like to try them, just not sure they'd make it here.

Hostas spread, but fairly slowly. Most animals eat them. They're also good for bees.

Spent more time weeding today. I like to let the weeds shrivel up in the sun then use them as mulch. I've been mulching my onions with them but I believe I will now start mulching my corn with them. Once my corn is no longer falling over they can start going onto the potatoes.

I have some onions that seem ready to come out of the ground but I don't know what to put in the empty space they will leave. I'm not sure if we have time for another planting of onion sets but I'd like to do that. I could do carrots but the bed isn't really prepared for carrots. It's a very sunny spot, too. Not sure what to do with it.

I accidentally broke one of the vines for a squash plant today trying to get it to trellis through the corn properly. Sadness. But it was trying to spread into the peppers and carrots which is not OK. They need the sun that the squash would take away.

Got the floor of the coop done. 1/2" HC under the 1/2" plywood and floor joists 12" OC. It's about 8' square and 7' tall, so I'm feeling real good about it. The drainage, foundation and floor being done is a relief! The rest should go quickly if we can get more dry weather. Expecting more rain shortly though. Just as well. HE and I barely had enough energy left to go to the feed store for chick starter and another bale of bedding. And cover our hard work with a tarp!

Got more veggies pickling now. In the garden I've got Several "flying" cantaloupe swelling up and more cukes than I can count. Tomato plants still holding on and still lots of fruit on them. Okra setting in earnest now. Carrots look kind of sad.

I gave the chicks peelings of cukes and some lettuce gleanings. Fun to watch them play chase.

Way back when, we always feed our chickens all our food scraps and garden waste. I mean everything. Well, most dairy and meat went to the pigs, but our chickens got some of that too. Never had any trouble either. Those were big healthy hens that laid big eggs with thick shells and deep orange yolks. Even our meat birds got some scraps. I remember them all being quite hardy birds.

I had one adult tomato plant left. Looked terrible but I left fruit on it to ripen.
Came out to get the tomatoes and found this devil

He destroyed the rest of the plant!

So I did a 86 on him!

Sorry.. But he had to split!

Moral of the story is...
DON'T MESS WITH CONNIE'S TOMATOES!

Had to pick them all. They will countertop ripen now!

Harvested this this morning, a pound and a half of cucumbers, 7 ears of corn, 11 okra pods, around half a pound of peas and a pound of peppers. Harvested about a pound of peppers Thursday too.

Wow! Yesterday I picked strawberries and peas. I watered my tomatoes, eggplant, onions, carrots, chard, beets, fennel, and cukes. I planted more carrots and chard seed. What else..... ummmmm.... I think that's it.

My goats got into my lufa gourds a week ago. They are already growing back. Invasive plant.
