What did you do in the garden today?

Merriweather - the grand dame of the coop has passed away
Age 9 years, 6 months, and 8 days
She lived an amazing life and outlived all of her grand-children and even the family dog.
She was sweet and pampered to the end and will be greatly missed.

==========
High temp tomorrow will be -4F and high temp on Sunday will be -7F.
Chill temp of -50F. Lord love a duck.
Sorry for your loss.

So sorry Merriweather passed. :hugs Sounds like she had a great chicken life.

I have several older birds too between 8-11 yrs old. They sure leave a mark on our hearts.

Aw, sorry you lost the old gal. She had a wonderful life.

@Acre4Me do you (or anyone else, of course!) have a suggestion for melon for me? I want something sweet. Parthenocarpic would be a huge bonus, lol. (I've been searching, not sure it's a thing with melon)

Seed catalogs are coming in, time to order.

More rain here. It's rained so much the road is a lake, I've never seen that. The ground is so saturated it has no where to go.

This is the first time I see a white Schlumbergera . I rescued a pink one from dehydration last summer. It started to blossom in november. View attachment 3724915
I prefer gardening inside where the chickens don’t destroy the plants and I seem to have way less failures than outside. ;)
That's a lovely color.

We have a Christmas cactus we got about 20 years ago, blooms every Thanksgiving!

It's a peach color.

As said, we don’t have your white Christmas Cactuses here. We say lid cactus to these type of cactus. Named after the leaves/pieces that grow in a row after each other.

People here buy so cold (translated) Christmas stars and Christmas roses (hellebores) .

These are my little Xmas stars:

I wish I did. Melon does NOT like it here. Either too hot too dry too windy or the squash bugs come. Go 120 miles NW of me and they're KNOWN for the watermelons. Go figure.

Even with lots of straw, they shiver when it’s below the middle teens at night. And since the days are cold too, we figure we should bring them in during the night.
We are getting down to single digits too... I have the buck and 1 doe in a barn stall together to keep each other warm. Lots of shavings and straw for them to burrow into...

The other 3 are in their regular goat house. I'm putting extra straw in there to help them stay warm. And, of course, lots of hay since eating hay should help them burn energy to stay warm too. All of my goats are REALLY fat. Even obese, in some cases... I've tried to get them to lose weight with no luck... Anyway, that extra fat ought to help keep them warm too. Everyone has a de-icer in their water so they can drink too.

I'll be glad when this stuff passes....
