What did you do in the garden today?

I did some damage to my Achilles, a partial tear. Was on crutches for a while, now off them but my heel hurts pretty good when I walk too much.

My backyard shoes are comfortable because they’re thick, squishy foam but the giant holes in the yard from the chickens make it a challenge back there :gig
Yowch! I wonder if the Goodfeet Store people could help you. They sure made a difference in my life, I was suffering terribly with plantar fasciitis. I had about given up hope. PT didn't help, shots from my podiatrist did nothing ... they're pricey... but worth it!

I’m so glad they’ve helped you! I’m a barefooter so don’t really have a way to put inserts in my shoes. I only wear shoes out there because poop happens :gig It’s my heel and lower calf that hurt. Muscles get tight, the tendon too, then the bursa on either side of the tendon get aggravated and then it swells there. Rest and ice work pretty well.

Indeed, poop happens! I'm glad you've found what works for you. ❤️

I've been rubbing organic castor oil where I ache, feet included. I honestly don't know if it is the castor oil soaking in overnight or the action of my rubbing it on, but my feet are feeling better. I also just got some nice shoe & muck boot inserts, and got a pair of Brooke's sneakers for grocery shopping, etc. & the support they provide helps.
Edgar Cayce said good things about Castor Oil, it seems to nourish aches & pains. Some even claim it helped with bone spur pain. I'm doing it after my shower before bed every night. I figured what the heck, give it a shot. So far so good. Skin is not dry anymore & I seem to ache less...so maybe it is worth trying.

I found a big rabbit body with no head once, could not understand what critter would leave all the good meat & take only the head. I read that owls do that sometimes.
We had a bobcat that would do that, he'd pull the head off & run off then come back for the body like the next day. He did it to a chicken & then a rabbit. He left very telling tracks in the dirt, so I knew for sure what it was.

Rabbits...I had one that continued to build it's nest & have babies in my strawberry patch (despite my efforts to keep it out). I don't want that in my strawberry patch, that's disgusting. I was a little shocked, but very happy when the hawk sat on my cucumber trellis & ate them all. Last year she tried to have them in the dogs yard. Patrick enjoyed every one of them. 😲 🤣

The only rabbit tracks I see is up by the house and in the poultry yard. There's several that don't run from me. Also found a bit of fur and a bunch of intestines in the middle of the driveway early morning, so I figured owl.
I heard a Great Horned owl last night. Glad my flock is under hardware cloth!

Most of My turkeys refuse the coop. Last Sunday I seen feathers and blood. Found a turkey jenny with a scab from eye to beak and blood on her chest feathers. I hemmed and hawwed for a couple hours about harvesting or see if she recover. I have had a couple turkeys that were injured and didn't recover.
Decided I need to get rid of a few and I didn't want to sell an injured bird. By then the side of her face was the size of a shooter marble. When I put her in the cone it opened up and I thought she might bleed out from it. After the plucker I could see a big gash on her neck and a small one on her back. Everything else was good.
The owls have even killed a 4 year old tom. He hit so hard his shoulder was broken. A bit of his neck was eaten, about the size of my thumb. ... and the stupid birds still want to roost in the trees. Playing wack a mole with 30 turkeys is an effort in frustration.... so I share with the owls.
