What did you do in the garden today?

Oh! And we got the coop walls framed and on the foundation (which we did last weekend) yesterday!!!!

We are currently calling it The Close Enough Coop.

with exception to natural honey.
You can't make kombucha with honey. The bacteria in the honey and scoby don't play well together.

Now I will contradict myself and say, yes you CAN make kombucha with honey ... BUT... you have to "train" the scoby to accept the honey. I tried to do it, think I did, and then realized I couldn't afford to make kombucha with honey if I had to buy the honey.

Now that we have bees, if I get enough, I'll try again.

All my passwords have some type of swears in them because I hate having passwords. Working in IT, I have soooo many & then they have to be super complex - it drives me insane so when I change them I'm always bitching. 😂
Same here, I hate all of the passwords & then changing them, so a few of mine reflect how I feel about passwords 🤣

I can try agave, I have some already.

It is POURING today. And the weather is just miserably perfect for a perfect miserable day.

Went outside at 7 AM to feed animals only to find one of our mares down in the front pasture. I thought she was dead... She wasn't but we can't get her to even lift her head. It's not colic so I don't have a clue what is wrong with her. We've called FIVE different vets and no one can come until later this evening. We are expecting severe storms, flash flooding, etc... Out of desperation, I talked DH into trying to use a gate panel to get her back to the barn. We rolled her onto it and then used our full size truck to drag the panel to the barn. Thankfully we got her under the safety of the barn before the downpour hit. But it is heartbreaking watching her gasp for every breath and not know how to help her... She has been given Banamine and Xylazine to help sedate her. Just have to sit idly by and wait another hour and a half for a vet to come by

I made a little more progress in the garden today. A quick refresher, I was so consumed with building a new chicken coop last Autumn that I didn’t put my gardens to bed for the Winter. I’m plugging away at it now. This morning I raked as much of the loose grass and weed debris in the 16 foot garden bed as I could. This afternoon I took the weed whacker to it and attacked the herb beds. The pile of leaf debris I raked up will go into the bottom of my semi hugelkultur bed. The ground is still soggy and sloppy that I won’t go out in the backyard or garden areas without my mud boots on. But at least I’m making some progress.

So sorry about your mare. I hope she can recover from this.

There's a funny story I've read about changing passwords. I will edit it slightly for this family friendly site:

I didn't always get to mine for winter prep either, but I noticed the wild birds loved picking through, so I now just pick what seeds I want & leave the rest for them over winter. The seed eaters are happy & I see many grabbing dead stems & leaves early spring for building nests. A funny rabbit climbed up in one of my tall flower pots by the back door last month & started to line a hole she dug, to make a nest. She chose a better spot later on, though.
