What did you do in the garden today?

Hey Jen! It doesn't matter if it is creeper or ivy, i am allergic to both. This place is just loaded with the stuff. I keep pulling it out, but it may be a losing battle. Hope when i get goats they will help me win. I got a big tow chain for husband at Harbor Freight, i had one but it got sold when we moved to FL. Also bought a driveway alert system So we know when someone is here before the dog does. Got a free tarp but they were out of cooling towels. I was looking for cheap exterior paint but found none so i am using a can i bought before. Really, at $8 a gallon you can't go wrong. All the boards are cut for the floor, except the plywood and i will do that tomorrow . A little more painting and assembly and i will have a floor! My silly Shepherd keeps smelling my pumpkin plant. I do not know why, but i don't want her to eat it. I have enough problems with bugs. Guess i should go relax before bed, get the kitty chores done. Night folks!

If you can find a habitat for humanity re-store in your area the prices are amazing. Our coop door (solid wood exterior door with glass panels - $2), paint and stain ($2 - $4 a gallon), and windows ($5 each) came from there.

I was hoping to go there yesterday, but they are closed on Mondays. Thanks , though. Sounds like that may be my answer.

Haven't been able to get on in a while. My old laptop is dying a painful death and haven't been able to get the app to work well on my phone. I'm sure it's user error as far as the phone is concerned. My new laptop was suppose to arrive yesterday, but didn't:(:hit
Am using hubby's laptop as he is sleeping in. I begged some tomatoes from a coworker and ended up with enough plus the few I got from my garden to put up 5 pints of pasta sauce and 5 pints of chili base. So sad that my garden is not cooperating with me this year.
I want to try the back to Eden method, but so far can't find a source for wood chips. I even went online and signed up to be a place where companies can dump wood chips. Have priced chippers, but they are more than what we can spare at the moment. Now trying to find a friend that has one I can borrow. :oops:
My sunflower seedlings seem to have all died in this heat. I was keeping them and the garden watered, but....
I do have another pack that I will plant.
My garden looks really sad. I had to pull out all the zucchini plants Bugs killed them. Out of 3 cucumber plants only 2 are still alive, barely. The pumpkin plants, the surprise plants, are on their way out too. Green bean plants are growing well, but no flowers yet. Tomatoes are barely hanging in there. Green peppers are growing, they just don't have a lot of peppers on them. Replanted kale & spinach, but it looks like only the kale MAY come up. Already planning on how to make next year better. This has been my worst garden in a very long time. I even put a lot of compost on it {LOL, wonder if that some how made it worse?}

This has been a tough year for a lot of gardens - too hot, too wet, too dry. If we hadn't irrigated, used raised beds with plastic and added nutrients we'd be in the same boat. As it is our cukes died an early death pretty much across the board, and our tomatoes developed leaf curl - which looks TERRIBLE but thankfully doesn't mess too much with production.

Hope your new batch of sunflowers make it, and good for you supplementing with other tomatoes to make your sauce : )

My garden looks like H-E-double toothpicks (my mother used to say that) right now. But it's to be expected. This is the mid summer switch over time. Old plants out, new ones in. Fresh bean plants should be showing color soon. Okra just really getting started. Fresh pepper and tomatoes still growing, So the current sad looking peppers and tomatoes are still ripening their last fruit and looking, well, sad. And do it goes this time of year. Yada yada.

My arms and hands are like wet noodles from building and painting the coop. Getting 'er done!

Got laundry done and put away yesterday, mostly. Housework can wait, chicks ain't gonna!

I admire your energy and action, Wink. I know how darn hot it is there and it takes strength to keep getting all of that done.

In Texas, and to a certain extent here, you're able to have a succession planting of maters, beans, and a whole lot of other garden goodies. In Ohio, not so (part of why we moved) unless you've a green house, cold frames etc. and then mostly cooler crops.

I did my best to plan for that here in KY and we did get another 250 tomatoes in 1st of July, but just couldn't get there with cukes and squash.

Next year...:fl

Housework isn't even making my list. I am painting as i go along while building. That way all parts of boards get it. Oh! I have some cherry tomatoes to pick. Yay!
