What did you do in the garden today?

I am so over pocket hoses, fabric hoses, and so on. Today while preparing to water bean seeds, it exploded where I was holding it and I got soaked! For the same price, I recently bought a stainless steel hose. It is lightweight and should withstand pressure. Time will tell its durability. I cannot also stand big heavy hoses.

I used to love fish fertilizer until racoons fall in love with it too recently. They dug everything out including my young pear trees to looking for fish!
We had a similar experience, but it appeared the raccoon dug a little here, there, and lots of small holes. I guess smart enough to realize there really wasn’t anything there.

About pruning and tying your squash to posts, do you think it's hard on the plants losing so many of the big leaves? Seems like it would lower the amount of energy the plants would produce from the sun/photosynthesis.

Also, I wonder how one of those elastic Ace bandage wraps would work for tying the plants to the stake?

I think you mentioned that the main reason you grow summer squash that way is because of the vine borer problem. I don't have any of those bugs here (so far, anyway), so maybe it would be OK just let mine grow without all the extra care. Thanks! Your garden is looking good!
It’s my understanding SVB aren’t out west. So, you can stake the squash to grow vertical and better airflow but should not need to wrap the stem.

I use horse wrap for quick, wide tie ups/trunk wrapping. Far less expensive, and doesn't stay wet.

Yes. I use a hose that may be older than me! We keep cutting and fixing it. Those pocket hoses didn’t last more than a week for me either

You mean you wrap the carcass b4 burying? I know our plastic bags didn’t do the job.
I may need some!

Mine are straightening up. You're right how more air circulation can help prevent powdery mildew.

One thing to keep in mind, do not prune the main vine. If you're not sure, wait to see which stem continues to grow before pruning. I made that mistake with one of my plants last year.
My goodness! you folks in the South are so far ahead on the gardens. Looks good, nice photos
