What did you do in the garden today?

I'd love to plant datura but it's so toxic to my pasture animals so I don't dare. I shall live vicariously through you... 😂
Yes it is hallucinogenic and can be toxic. I plant these far away from the chickens. They are in an area where the deer and rabbits destroyed all my hosta. They do not even sniff these. The butterflies, bees and
hummingbirds love them.
It is amazing the number of common garden plants are toxic.

Datura is Moon flower?
I suppose the morning glories would be toxic since in same family? Supposedly a mild hallucinogenic

I thought it was wisteria popping up all over my yard. Nope, trumpet vine.

I think goats will eat that as well...

Until I get goats I can get a weed burner and destroy them with 🔥🔥🔥

Some call Datura moon flower. It grows as a shrub.

There is another plant also referred to as moon flower. I think it's botanical name is Impomea alba. This one is a vine in the morning glory family.
It's flower looks just like the white datura and smells good too.

Last year I planted the vine near the datura shubs and the deer quickly ate the whole vine.

Never touched the datura.

I'm in zone 8a. I usually can plant annuals by April 1-15.

But I miss tulips, lilacs, and other cooler weather flowers.
I wish I could have tulips that would come back. In the past I planted some of the Darwin Hybrid tulips. They came back a couple years but got smaller until they disappeared.
We just do not have long cold spells to keep them going.

This past winter was not cold enough for my peonies. I only got about half the blooms I've had in the past.
Disappointing.
