What did you do in the garden today?

I planted my sweet potato slips FINALLY! I scooped chicken run dirt added sand to make fill the boxes I planted them in. My little pepper plants starts I planted yesterday are looking great. And bonus the oregano seeds I soaked and planted in a pot are coming up! So my herbs are looking good except for my thyme 🤔. I also planted some bush cucumber in pots to live on patio for summer. We will see. Chard is getting ready to bolt so may pick that for summer and plant again in fall.
Pleasantly I wasn't very sore shoveling all that dirt so that made me happy. Finished cleaning poop boards and clipped leghorns nails . Great day.

Yesterday was a great day! Less humidity, I could Breathe!!! We have not had any rain, whatever they forecasted all week missed us, but Saturday night we had wind blow the humid, stagnant, pollen heavy air out then cooler Temps Sunday made for an awesome day, no asthma wheezing! I cut grass, pulled weeds, even had the firepit going, trying to clear out many small scraps of wood. Burned several chunks of the Holly tree DH cut down, only a few pieces left now, so that area is clear finally. It's where I plan to have more Blueberry plants. I had all the chickens & Guineas free ranging & the Homing Pigeons flying. As I pulled weeds, chickens came to see what delectable grubs & bugs I had unearthed. A few hens are super friendly & get right in my way, makes me laugh. Nothing is cuter than a hen digging & scratching, doing her little chicken dance, then lookin up at me...like well, are ya gonna help here or what? Dig me up some grubs mom! 😆 I get a kick out of my chickens, I swear it looks like they're doing the watusi!

I tended to flock, checked over for mites & No Mites! Yay!

Everything is rather dry here, I did ALOT of watering as the tomatoes & basil looked wilted. They say we'll get rain tonight...I will believe it when I smell that sweet rain coming & hear the rain drops plinking on the metal roof.

We got about .25 inch of rain yesterday. The sun came out mid afternoon so I was able to roast a chicken on the charcoal grill. Finally we’re having more seasonable temps here. Warming up into the 80’s later this week. I’ve charged the weed whacker batteries to finish cutting through the grass and weeds in the pumpkin patch to be today.

I pulled mulberries from the freeze dryer today. Flavorless.
Yeah, mulberries are pretty bland! The wile birds like them, and I'm happy to leave them for the birds. Who then poop purple on everything.
hear the rain drops plinking on the metal roof.
That is one of the loveliest sounds I know.

Got home last night and a chicken was out - we think Goldie who is super friendly. I think she was following dh after he put their swing up! Not spoiled at all!
Dd asked why some cucumber vines were dying and I said we missed one - or three 😱
There is something very satisfying of pulling bug infested squash plants up and giving to chickens! We still are getting a lot and I’ve started more so I don’t feel devastated- 😊
I knew those worms were hiding from me - look how eaten this one is!
I taught my cat last year to help w finding the horn worms so she is on their scent! Downside is she doesn’t get along w outside clowder so she leaves if they come around
