What did you do in the garden today?

I've been hunting potato bugs to give to the chickens. Well, to get them out of the potato plants.

Yesterday I found some eggs, so I've missed several. The eggs are easy to see, since they're neon orange. They're on leaves closer to the ground, so I have to bend way over to find them.
Use a handheld mirror ! Much nicer on your back. I used this the year we had a bit of an infestation.

WHEW! around 120 sweet potato slips planted. Now water like mad 1-2x per day until they perk up.

Intense Heat (for west central Ohio anyway) arrives and sticks around for a week or so. Heat indexes over 100F on many days. But hopefully will cool to more manageable temps after this heat wave. The plants will love it, I’m sure!

@Smokerbill -notice the dirt area next to the sweet potatoes? That is the “great carrot experiment” area -the ones soaked then put in gel before planting. Yes, most are sprouting -one variety seems to be lacking in sprouts. However, it’s not any quicker than plain ‘ol’ seeding. Biggest advantage is getting the seeds evenly distributed. Might have to add in some seeds for a couple of the varieties. I’m going to wait a little longer.

A thick layer of pine shavings, oddly enough. Bare Earth and the flies lay eggs in it.

I finished the back splash. I cannot find my bottle of sealer, and both bathroom back splashes need done too. So I'll grab another one in the city. The picture stinks, but here it is. I'll rehang the chicken paintings with those pop and click 3m strips this weekend.

Gorgeous!

If they're like the plants I see this time of year in TSC, they are VERY dried out. Get them in some water.
Hang onto the boxes, if something does not grow you can put the dead "stick" right back into the box & return it. If ya don't save receipts, hopefully you're in their Neighbors club & they'll look up when you bought it. They do refund or give store credit for stuff that didn't grow.

Before you plant any of these, soak in water 1st. They're stored dormant in the packages. Most times soaked in water will "wake them up" but sometimes not so just be prepared in case you need to return them.

judging by the colour. if true partridge boys have 2 colours at hatch and girls 3. I see 2 colours on your chick. girl would have dark brown (almost black) as well. I don't know if your chick is true partridge.
These are backyard mutts. Their father is an Nn and my girls are Nn with one SS in the mix. The EE girls aren’t laying yet.
