What did you do in the garden today?

I wish my chicken coop walls looked that clean.... 😂
Trust me, they are not that clean.

I'm not even gonna photograph the section where a Roo had a comb mishap, blood splatter on the wall, looks like a freaking murder scene! Lol

I have a fat hen that constantly breaks an egg or 2 with her fat butt jamming in there while someone else is already in there, trying to lay an egg...nevermind the perfectly clean & Empty nest box right next door. Nope they all want That Box, So it is nasty at the moment.

Another Roo was sparring against the wire mesh, lost a spur, his night perch is bloody. Oh yes, they can be a mess, more than just under the perches on the poop boards. 💩 😆

It amazes me how messy chickens can be.

DS still has a high fever. Hanging out at 102-103. Poor little guy. Keeping him inside, which is oddly easy, that's how you know he's super sick. Trying to at least keep him hydrated, feeding him whatever he'll eat. 😞

I got the last of the beans planted. Planted one of my mint plants, one more of the mystery color poppies, scraped the compost away from the outside wall of the chicken coop. Watered it all down into the run space since they are out free ranging for the afternoon. It's hot. Mercury says it's 91, feels like 100 in the sun. Bleh. Definitely not going to get everything done that I planned on. I will mow the yard though.

I am lucky benedryl takes care of my allergies.
Many of your allergies a really worse than mine.
Yah, Allegra keeps my eyes from swelling completely shut & Benedryl helps with hives & a good night's sleep, inhaler helps with wheezing. I'm grateful at least I get that much help. Teen years were brutal, eyes swelled shut, nose completely clogged, hives, asthma & severe reactions to poison ivy or oak or sumac, I never did figure out which, chronic bronchitis they called it back then, just gave me prednisone & a bottle of Comtrex, the Halls cough drops which I still have daily, cortisone cream for hives, I was a mess every spring & summer, gobs of nasty crap in my eyes. Ugh, gross. I'm doing alot better these days. Nothing is going to keep me indoors for long despite all of that.

I've learned a lot of things through iteration.

1. Make sure chickens can't roost in the rafters. It makes for a rather unpleasant experience when you have to go in the coop at night.

2. Poop boards are the most ingenious inventions anyone ever thought up. I want to buy that guy/gal a beer...

3. Less is more sometimes. I use sand in my coop since it is a dessicant. But it's a heck of a lot easier to clean when you don't have to sift through a dune...

4. "Fake grass" outdoor carpet is a wonder in the nesting box. Not only are they generally easy to clean but chickens tend to not roost in the box anymore AND my eggs come out a lot cleaner than any other materials I've used in there.
