What did you do in the garden today?

Checked the rain gauges in the garden since I know the Acu-rite is NOT accurate. Both manual rain gauges measure up to 7" but hold closer to 8+" in total. They will both FULL all the way to the top which means Beryl dumped AT LEAST 8" of rain on us overnight. Probably more since it overflowed the rain gauge.

By comparison, my Acu-rite said we got 2.9 inches. 🙄

That’s a good excuse :gig
Lol, you got me. I just got this black cast iron one and both oval and round sour doughs fit inside, and I don't have to worry about the enamel chipping or melting. It's a little bigger than the 5qt round enamel Dutch oven that I bought before it. Then I saw the Blue oval enamel one and the measurements were ideal for my Breville oven, and I was thinking I could always give one to my brother or sister.

I have two enamel coated Dutch ovens in two sizes plus one plain cast iron. They are versatile! I’ve never had any issues with the enamel on mine and they’ve been around for at least ten years. They have advantages over the straight cast iron sometimes.

Rain is threatening here, I guess I wasted my time watering this morning.

On the bright side, a handful of pea pods were dry enough to harvest for seed, and the basil, catnip and oregano are all in bloom. If I can keep them alive through the ongoing muggy heat, that should be food for the pollinators (no bees yet, but one of the hummingbirds already visited once) and emergency seeds for me and the seed library.

Now if only the cutworms would leave them alone. 😒
Probably encouraged the rain :gig

I finally figured out how to get an oven spring in my Breville oven. It's a small step for mankind as I have mastered it.

I made adjustments to my bulk fermentation temperature and time before the pre shape and final shape. It took 3 hours at 80F for my dough to double and I let the dough rest 30 minutes before transferring it to my ice box at 2pm and baked it at 6 am for a total of 18hours refrigeration time.
