What did you do in the garden today?

I had to protect my tomatoes (I have about 2 or 3 that are ripe and ready for picking) from Chester - the huge cockerel. He was eyeing that tomato plants and I could hear him trying to figure out how to get into the tall planter to get to my very nice looking tomatoes!

I eyed my watermelons, wishing they were close to harvest. They aren't.

And oh my, I enjoyed another succulent strawberry from my late crop. Heaven in a bite. :)

Picked a few banana peppers. My bell peppers are just now starting to change color. Yeah!!!

The fresh herbs in my scrambled eggs were great!

Going to plant some more flowers in the chicken run. I have a couple of 40 gallon containers that I plant seeds into. The chickens will "find" it and scarf up the new shoots. (These are old seeds.)

Still gotta get the ice cube trays set up so I can start some new seeds. Hope to do that today or tomorrow!

Hi guys! Haven't had much to say about what I did in the garden lately because my knees have really been acting up and I haven't been able to accomplish very much. I do have a funny story to tell (funny to me, anyway)... today Hubs was out tilling some rows and the chickens were following him around like the Pied Piper, as usual, eating lots of grubs, worms, etc. I watched as our youngest hen, "Princess" started making the "egg laying" noise - you know, the sound they make when they head off towards the coop to lay an egg (kind of like they're going off to the torture chamber). Anyway, she would make the noise every minute or two, but kept frantically looking for bugs, like she was trying to get her fill of goodies before she had to leave. Finally, the egg-laying urge must have been too strong, and she ran off towards the coop, with the strangest gait I've ever seen a chicken use. It reminded me of when a little kid has to go to the bathroom, and they kind of get up on their tippy toes and run to the bathroom! I really laughed at her - it looked like she waited a little too long, and was trying to hold the egg in till she could reach the nesting boxes - lol :lau. I don't know if you all will find that funny (maybe my sense of humor is warped), but just thought I would share that with you!

@chickmom3941 Too funny!

Lol - That is funny! Geez, I can really relate to that photo. We have zucchini and yellow squash coming out our ears right now, and there's no sign of them slowing down at all. Actually, they seem to be coming more fast and furious every day!
We aren't getting zucchini although we have beautiful plants. There is a vole eating the female flowers before the bees pollinate them. I've set out rat poison but it prefers the veggies...:he
Put up another 14 quarts of soup starter this morning. Started chopping veggies at 7:30 am. Last ones out of the waterbath at 12:45. Enjoying an iced coffee now.

I have not been into the garden yet today. I did buy groceries, and they are put away. Seems like the kittens are hiding today, i wonder if they know i plan to deworm them again today. I never told anyone!
Getting some boards painted for the last wall of the coop. Hopefully they dry so i can cut and assemble them.
Something interesting about the small town near here i noticed today. Not a single cart left out for someone to run into. Every one was placed in the proper corral! Love it. And they have big hanging baskets of petunias on lamp poles through town. Looks nice.

Tarps ready for rainy spell. Gathered standing hay for the henhouse. Noticed a few of the biddies panting, so pulled out the frozen water jugs and set them around. Getting too hot for me to be out too. Just as I sat down, HE got back with groceries. Got everything put away. Now to cool off and rehydrate. I had hoped to get out and take individual pics of each of my 25 this weekend. Don't know when that's going to happen. I need more hours in the day that humans can tolerate to be moving around out there!
