What did you do in the garden today?

I had a neighbor tell me that relocating captured wildlife (at least in my area) is illegal. 😕

I had someone on a forum tell me that in Arkansas you can’t relocate raccoons or wildlife (I was capturing raccoons and relocating at a national park). We don’t live in AK.

That is a downer. Your choices are plant enough for them (which they multiply and will never be enough), or kill. 😕

It is not legal in most states.
People dump their problems by me all the time. Once they have been in a trap most animals learn.
I have caught people releasing migrant varmints in my side yard and they say they didn't see the house behind the trees....or the no trespassing signs they are parked by. They think since a forest preserve is nearby it's ok. They don't allow releasing migrants in there either. Not enough resources and the residents don't want to share. They claim around 70% of relocated wildlife die a slow death . 100% die by me

I suppose I could try that, next year. I do have cattle panels. Did you sew your covers?

☹

🙂

I hear you. My neighbor has a trap set. Here's hoping!
Thanks, Sue!
I use binder clips on the ends to hold them shut & just order ones big enough to cover them (one is a little too short & doesn't go to the ground, hence the bugs). The bugs do eventually find their way in, but it gives the plants a couple months head start.

Has anyone ever heard of Cinnamon Pickles?? I'm so curious to try (but a sugar free version). The original recipe uses the big cucumbers you didn't see, pickling lime, vinegar & red hot candies. I found a recipe with cinnamon sticks instead - which I'd use. Always looking for a way to use up the tons of cucumbers! (eta: I think I would use pickle crisp too instead of lime & alum)

We won't relocate anything, we dispatch. I'll try & live with it if possible, but once it threatens me or my livelihood it's got to go (& that IS legal in CT, I called & checked when the bear was trying to get to my chickens).

I picked 3+ rows of sweet corn today and processed it by myself. I've always had help before. I got sunburned and I'm really tired, I had a ton of other stuff to do today too.
So far, I have 15 baggies with 3 cups of corn in each. And... I love the new tool I got for the corn! It works amazingly!

Your corn looks delicious. I'm still trying to get mine to work right. It's really tall but not producing properly. I'm thinking that I need nitrogen but I don't want to use chemicals .

I use the sweet corn fertilizer from Gurneys every year.
I don't think I have ever seen it but also I don't like having to order online. I just go to the store and buy a bag of popcorn for popping and use it. In the 90's I had a horse corral that had eucalyptus trees and my corn went ape crap crazy. I know some people that have eucalyptus trees so I will raid theirs and get my corn to go ballistic.

Story about relocating wildlife. Illegal here. In the 80s I worked at a seed and hardware store. People were buying live traps for chipmunks and releasing them in a park. Soon people that lived near the park were buying live traps for chipmunks. :gig It only moves the problem. Dispatching is the only solution. For chipmunks a wooden rat snap trap works well.
