What did you do in the garden today?

The good news is Debby will be coming at me from the west. Less rain and not very windy. However the bands of rain have already started. I think I got all the remaining potatoes and picked nearly 2 pounds of black turtle bean pods. The bushes are still loaded but I picked as much as I could as a precaution. The good news is a good many tomatoes are at the yellow stage so worst case scenario they could finish ripening off the vine. When Debby moves out of here I can plant collards, Brussel sprouts, lettuce, kale and carrots. They’re predicting a warm Autumn for us so hopefully I’ll get a nice fall harvest.

We bought a washer, dryer, and refrigerator when we moved in here 30 years ago. They were all used, and it was $500 for the three, delivered and installed.

We have replaced the washer. I wanted a front loader, and it's been running fine for ... 15? 18? years. We have had to do some repairs on the dryer; belt? or something else minor.

The fridge was probably at least 10 years old when we bought it. It's still running just fine. I will cry when it finally dies. We will never find another fridge as good, I'm sure. A fridge that works without breaking down for 40 years? I doubt they make anything like that anymore.

Regarding the appliances. I bought Samsung washer and dryer at the end of 2017. They are great and I still get happy when they sing to me. The dryer did stop drying a couple of months ago but I got a cleaning kit from Amazon then vacuumed it out really well and it’s working great again. From what I’ve heard, 2017 was a good time to buy Samsung since they seem to have gone down in quality since then. I feel lucky.

My DH will tell me "the dryer is playing your song" 🙄

I planted more seeds and decided to look at the roots of the tomatoes that I cut down recently.... It's not nematodes, it's a damned gopher....

However I did kill one of the gophers that was eating my pumpkins. Hooray! I set traps for the one in my oldest raised bed. I'm sure the poultry wire on the bottom rotted out long ago, but still. At least I'm planning to dig them all out anyway. I'll put new in when I do.

I mowed the clover today as well.

I gutted a boppi pillow and filled it full of buckwheat hulls.
My BIL gave my husband a buckwheat hull pillow for Christmas a few years ago. I use it or sleep with a towel or shirt under my neck.

I also use a stuffed animal thing that's mostly full of beans under my shoulder or between my knees. He's from target, his name is Chubby Cheetah.
