I'm going to try this recipe for refrigerator pickled stuff. Gonna do cukes, carrots & green beans because that's what I have from the garden. (I will do half vinegar/half water tho)

Why are the knobs on the front where children can reach them?

My mother taught us to never leave anything on the stove top. Good advice.

I keep a whistling teakettle on one burner, filled partly with water. If the burner gets turned on accidentally it should whistle at me.

No gardening again today.

I'm trying some oddball ingredients in my refrigerator pickles. Rolled up cauliflower leaves stuffed in zucchini stems and also tied with green onion tops. Peeled cauliflower and zucchini stems, plus green beans, a clove of garlic, a quartered onion. Ramekins on top to hold things down.

The brine I came up with:
1 2/3 C water
1 2/3 C vinegar
2 Tbs sugar
1 Tbs K.salt
1/8 tsp red pepper flakes
1/8 tsp celery seed
1 tsp mustard powder
10 black peppercorns
1 tsp mustard seed

Sitting outside with the big chickens between showers. I walked through the garden and the tomatoes are looking good. I did pick a handful of pinto bean pods. I’m thinking of making another batch of pesto tomorrow. The basil is growing very well.

I forgot to mention that the strawberries are popping up. I guess I should get the bird netting out soon.

Such weird weather Debby is bringing. Rain & wind & sun & clouds & all of it at once. Its confusing me. A tornado watch too.

I went out this am & picked all the tomatoes that started to turn so they won't split. The rest of the edamame too.

We are having the first BLTs of the season for dinner.
