What did you do in the garden today?

I am going to start picking my long squash earlier way before their seeds turn hard. There is hardly any meat on the bigger ones after I cut out the seeds, so it doesn't make any sense. The smaller ones have more meat, since I don't have to cut out the seeds.

I started salting them and will keep them in a salt brine in my refrigerator. I will use them for Indian curry with meat, soups and instant saimin.

They also can be eaten raw as a side dish or as a topping for salads.

well drought.gov said it this way . and i guess 35th out of 130 isn’t that bad actually. but in sept we had less than half inch rain , and none at all in oct. View attachment 3971161
For stats and 'yearly' they can call whatever window they want. But the water year is Oct to September - for official purposes.

A squash this size after taking out the seeds, makes one wok full of Indian pork curry. I used about 2 tbs of corn starch to thicken the gravy. I am going to use lamb on my next batch and chicken after that.

I used 2tsp Turmeric powder, 2tsp Cummin powder, 1tsp Garam Masala powder, 1tsp Coriander powder, 1tsp Paprika, 2 cloves of garlic, 1/2 an onion, 1 bay leaf, 2 to 3tsp sugar, 1/4tsp red pepper flakes, fresh cilantro, butter, 2tbs Cento tomato paste in a tube, 2tsp chicken bouillon, 1 bay leaf, 2 cups water and salt to taste.

There are layers, upon layers of flavor in this dish.

Are you using the garden ones that stick in the ground with PH, Light, Moisture, and Fertilizer? When I got mine, I did not read the instructions and used it to test my hydroponic ph and the ph reading did not work after that. The instruction says not to stick or wash the probe in water and not to leave it in the soil.
Yes and no. The one that died was the light, moisture, pH. I sat it out on the concrete to sterilize it and it's kinda working again. pH still reads a little high.

I have another one that takes batteries and it's only pH and fertilizer. The fertilizer read is useless IMO. I'm pretty sure I could sick it into a pile of chicken poop and it would say "too little".

I also have the water mixing test kit but I only use that once a year at the most because I'm lazy.

For my fish tanks I use the co-op easy test strips often. Then I use a digital pH meter if I'm going to run out and check the pool. I also have the API water testing kit but I hardly use it.

Over the week I've started more seeds. Broccoli, spinach(direct seed), onions, lettuce, mizuna mustard, cabbage, and cilantro.

The garlic I planted 16 days ago is already beginning to poke up out of the ground. I'm going to cover the patch with a layer of dried grass clippings today to keep the weeds from growing.

ETA: And I might get the planting areas for my yellow onions and shallots prepped today and plant the seeds. It'd be nice to have that chore out of the way.
