What did you do in the garden today?

I'm jealous... I've tried to grow sage several times with no luck. It always dies and I'm not sure why. Even established starter plants.

too much water? dig a hole, put a lot of big stones then some sand. that's how my mother managed to keep sage alive (zone 7b).

Like me & lavender. :lau I have officially given up...again.

My sage is in a raised bed & I do nothing to it & it grows out of control. It even survives winter here. Do you think it's too hot/humid for it where you are?

We got over an inch of rain! :celebrate

thank you for suggestion. although I already planted apricots I bought another one (different variety) and will plant it tomorrow. I like apricots, especially apricot jam crepes. I also bought another persimmon. I have had no luck with them so these 2 are my last try.

From what I've learned, sage prefers sandy, rocky soil with some organic matter/compost mixed in. Well draining soil is important because sage hates to have wet feet. Could that have been the problem with your plants?
Possibly because we have clay soil although I've worked hard to heavily amend it in my garden area so it's very loamy. I've also lost sage growing in 5 gallon buckets too... I'm thinking from your post that maybe the soil isn't sandy enough.

Sage loves neglect. If you pay attention and baby it, it'll die. Sandy soil, a layer of mulch, and walk away. It thrives on drought and poor soil.
I had a sage plant near the house where I wanted to have an herb garden. Not enough sunshine. I dug up the sage, planted it down in the garden, and WOW! did it take off! It gets plenty of light, and yes, the soil is sandy.

After all these years, I finally figured out how to use my cast iron stove top grill. After I heat up the cast iron, I turn my electric down to 4 with 10 being the hottest. Then I cook each side for 10 minutes lightly covered with aluminum foil. I use a paper towel to soak up any oil or juices that falls in between the cast iron grill. Typically, when I fry a steak in a regular flat surface cast iron, the oil splashes all over the place. This no oil on the floor method is a game changer.

I'm going to plant apricot, persimmon and a leftover kumquat trees. finally decided where to plant kumquat as it must be protected from the northern wind here. will plant 28 different bushes and cypresses I bought as well. I must change the climate on my property. 1 and a half acre of bare land was a disaster.

Wow! That's a lot of holes to dig!

Yesterday I had some imaging tests done. Results reflux, small hiatal hernia and age-related changes. DR increased my med to twice a day for the reflux. Thinks I have silent reflux. That is, I do not notice heartburn but still have some. Thinks stomach acid is causing my voice change.
