What did you do in the garden today?

Check to be sure that the ground hog does not have a tunnel hidden in your garden. Last summer I had one with a tunnel in the middle of the raspberry canes. They will hide their tunnel where ever there is sufficient plant material to cover it. Not a difficult task in my jungle garden.

didn't think of them at all thank you

Cottontail bunnies are cute, but I don't tolerate them in the garden. Momma rabbit feeds her kits twice daily. They mew just like a tiny kitten so Momma should find them where you put the new nest. Once the eyes are open, she will begin to wean them.

Hate groundhogs...we have gophers, voles, moles and rats....hate them too.

In the garden today I picked okra and put three gallon bags of sliced in the freezer. Have a gallon of small to pickle tomorrow.
Then I mowed the garden, yard and around the chicken pens...mowed on Tuesday and now again....lowered the deck an inch. All the rain and heat is making the grass grow like crazy.

Put Susie back on the bottle but still using the bucket for small training. Was reading in the cattle health books about the quantity of milk she needs daily...found a section about how first suckled milk bypasses the rumin stomach and goes to the the final stomach. Milk from a bottle follows the same path, because suckling triggers the brain to drop the milk fold that diverts the milk. But milk slurped from a bucket drops into the rumen (1st stomach) where bacteria feeds on the milk proteins thus robbing the calf of the vital nourishment. Besides 7 weeks old with no momma but human, Susie needs the reassurance a bottle gives to a baby...and I'm enjoying the interaction with her too.

That is interesting about the calf. I never knew that.
The ground hog or whatever it is has not bothered my pepper plants. Of course, i don't care for them but husband likes them. I suppose all the carrot tops are chewed off too. So disappointed. Will have to find the shells for the shot gun. This animal needs to go!

Just got in for the night. Quite the day....no 9 to 5, just start and finish. Got our back-up generator installed and took a break to share some corn-on-the-cob with the girls. The Ameruacanas got all sloppy with sweet corn juice and needed a beard and muff cleaning. They are hilarious! Think we'll start harvesting some apples this weekend.

igorsMistress: "Hubs said we would be in the yard working when the rooster crows. It's a little after 4:15 AM, Emmett will be crowing soon, and hubs is snoring. Just me and the dog, getting it done."

Ha! I love it! I finished up around 1 a.m. and my wife was grinding coffee at 3:30. That's a little early even for her. We are hosting a family reunion for her side this weekend and she is stoked for that. Our place isn't on GPS, so I'll be on recon patrol for all the newbies getting lost trying to find us. Beautiful morning, a little cooler today and the roo is really feeling it out in the yard. Must be all that fresh corn from yesterday!

Managed to get 6/7 crepe myrtles planted, mulched and watered. It's too hot to plant the last, took me a while to dig that hole. Done outside until early evening to plant the last one.
Dug out some weeds around the apple tree. Going to put down a couple layers of cardboard and another layer of mulch tomorrow.
Neighbor told me 2 girls and the boy were running around the neighborhood the other day :eek:totally shocked!
They either went under the gate or over the wall, but not sure which. The junk pile could have provided an opportunity for escape, but it's outside the walls now.
