What did you do in the garden today?

Granddaughter is in from college....ran errands in town, feed store, fruit market, PetSmart, found a cute mag rack end table at antique store, great lunch, hugs and kisses and she is on her way....they grow up sooooo fast.

Picked more okra in the sweltering humidity and a nap.
Going out to feed Susie.

Think I will pick some bell peppers, Big Jims, banana peppers for soup starter. I got 30 pounds of tomatoes today.
Need to put a chicken on for stock. Thinking chicken gumbo in the crockpot tomorrow.

While feeding Susie, decided I needed to check the water in all the pens....ducks had made mud pie sauce in all their water containers and pool. Had to dump them , rinse and refill them. Other pens were fine but water was hot....93 degrees outside...cooled those off. Broke out in a heat sweat...no glisten here...and got nauseous from the heat and humidity. Had to shower and am cooling under the fan. :th

Hot here too just not nearly as humid only 30%. Mowed part of orchard which I let get too tall again. Using grass as compost has really helped the weeds die back at the comfrey.
Also came in for break. Ended up taking a nap. Need to get back out there but the fan feels great.
Yes the kids and grandkids grow up way too fast.

The pumpkin plants under the shade cloth have pumpkins now. The cucumber plants aren't producing at all like the type they are supposed to be. Looks like a regular cucumber to me. I've planted in two different areas so waiting to see what the others produce.

igorsMistress: "Managed to get 6/7 crepe myrtles planted, mulched and watered."

We love crepe myrtles. Had them in Texas and wish we could grow them up here. What colors did you get?

I got two lavender and two white dwarf trees and 2 pink petites but the grower added an extra. I've seen them growing here, keeping my fingers crossed these make it!

I was cutting the last piece of plywood for the coop and it occurred to me that i needed to modify the electric fence and move the wires closer to the fence. I was also going to run another strand, but i ran out of daylight. Since the fence is not taught , it is hard to keep the wire close without having it touch the hot wire. Finally got it done by flashlight. The varmint has chewed off or trampled every single bean plant. My raised beds are practically empty. I wanted to get some medium length snap on plastic posts, but Lowes was out. Not much accomplished today, but the floor is down in the coop. I am sure hoping that critter gets zapped.

I am beginning to feel like a personal chef for my animals! Pick the fruits and the veggies. Chop the fruits and the veggies. Feed the fruits and the veggies to the animals. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat!

I started sprouting some beans. Doing an experiment to see if the animals will eat the sprouted beans. If yes, then I will be planting a LOT more beans next year!

Dismantled the duck Clubhouse and made a second turkey run for the underaged turkey poults. Moved the other turkey run so the guys can see each other.

Something bad happened while working outside that literally crippled me with muscle pain. So I had to be assisted inside and examined. No "cause" found. Possible sting from some flying object. Called Nurse Nana. She's the one that suggested the sting. No swelling, no heat, no obvious trauma, but I can NOT walk at all. From my knee to my toes, OW.

So....going to get assistance with a shower. (Hey, I got stinky today, doing all that work out in the heat!) Then to bed. Nurse Nana instructed me to take pain pills. Uh, can't get up to get them. And to take allergy medicine. Again, can't walk at all. So my assistant who had to put all the animals to bed and do head counts and the dishes said no now. :(

BUT I am super excited about the down time!!! Means I get to sleep in tomorrow if I can't work. And I get to spend some uninterrupted time doing research and planning my garden for next year!!!

The cost of this down time is that my assistance will find my ripe strawberries and eat them! Worth it.

Wow makes my cramped legs nothing. Careful with that.
