What did you do in the garden today?

All ice and sleet here. Border collie couldn't walk, legs kept slipping out from under her. Had to carry her to her potty spot, and boy did we come back in fast! I was still in my pajamas, brrr it was cold!
Praying you stay warm and safe! My experience has been that ice is nastier than snow.

Happy new year everyone. Been busy over here. Finally got a new refrigerator. Happy to be home after a week of camping.

They had seed potatoes at my local home desperate (Home Depot)! and asparagus, and strawberries! I got more than enough. I'll be planting soon!!!

I was surprised that they had actually gotten varieties in that will grow here. Same can't be said for the onions though.

Today I'll prune the trees. Or at least start. It's going to be a chore and a half.

I'm hoping to start some seeds this week. Lavender, peppers, peas, lettuces, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, thyme, maybe more. We'll see.

Good morning gardeners! It has been a while, but I’ve been limited on BYC time due to family needs. I hope you’re all well.

The last quarter of 2024 was rough for us; all five of us ended up in the ER for different reasons. Also much happening with elderly family in another state. Here’s hoping this year will be better!

Anyway, as a result I didn’t have a chance to start anything on my own so went to Home Depot for some starts (our neighbor gave us a gift card for there). The raised beds had settled considerably so I topped them off with some more soil with liberal amounts of vermiculite and perlite mixed in. Each plant got a good helping of worm castings as well. I’m pleased that the beds drain well, there were small puddles outside them after I watered everything. So far we have a bell pepper, a jalapeno, chives, Greek oregano, Italian parsley, broccoli, cauliflower and spinach. So good to get out in the sun and get my hands dirty!

Not the greatest pics but I’m so happy to get at least something going!

Has the storm passed you already?

We are right around the line of low accumulation and mid accumulation. So far it’s looking like a 2-4ā€ most likely accumulation for my area. So much better than sleet and ice. Of course there are some arm-chair ā€œmeteorologistsā€ posting models with worse case scenarios, including one saying we would get sleet, snow, and possibly more sleet on top of that. Every other reliable source does not indicate sleet or freezing rain here.

Grocery stores have been busy since Friday!
Yes, we're done. Kansas took the storm on the chin.
Only 12 degrees and the wind is howling, so the chill is unholy. BUT I don't have to be out IN that for hours plowing. For that, I am grateful.
Ya, this Colorado low is tricky. There is enough warm air hidden aloft to make sleet and freezing rain. The more of that you get, the less snow and the northern edge of the track has a tight snowfall gradient because of it.
I got basically an inch and 60 miles south of me has 8, further south, the higher the numbers get, and that stuff is on top of ICE. A LOT of ice, which dropped their snowfall numbers down. by 3 and 4 inches.

Storm missed me. Got about 1/2 inch or so of snow late yesterday. Most of the day the weather apps said it was snowing but I got nothing until before midnight.
I let the dog out just before 5 am and took a broom to the porch snow. Maybe a quarter of an inch
