What did you do in the garden today?

Today july 9, 2012, I built a trellis for my watermelon. I have them in a 4ft by 4ft raised bed and when they get growing they spread out all over the place. So i built a trellis with some left over chicken wire and framed it and it looks good. Now i have to find some panty hose so when i start getting melons i can hang them from the trellis. I have three okras, 1 tomatoe and a hot pepper growing as well. It raining now and filling my rain barrels. I use this to water my plants. Its summer here and very hot so not much will grow so i have to wait till september to get my garden really going. I will be using all raised bed and of course chicken manure compost. anyway thats it from sw florida. egg head

Getting alot of cukes and zuchini I have one green pepper on 8 plants. we had a good rain a week ago and I watered today for the first time since. now my rain water barrel is low. I have alot of banana peppers. when I bought them they were labeled mild, but these suckers are hot. I did some research on them and learned that they will turn red when mature, these were green when I sampled them. I'll wait to see if they turn red.

I was in the community garden for a bit today. The Canadian Thistles are bigger than almost anything else.

I wonder if they are edible.

Usually banana peppers are eaten yellow around here. There are two varieties of them, one mild and one hot plus if they are cross polinated with a hot pepper of any kind they can become spicy as well. My husband and son like them pickled to use on sandwiches.

We got most of our fall garden planted yesterday - corn, more okra, carrots, another couple of squash, and tomatoes. We're finally seeing female flowers on our melons but none on our Hopi's yet. Boo.
