Will you call it pomato or a totato? We'll see...That's a tomato stuffed into the stem of a potato. I used a toothpick to make the hole. I'll report back if the tomato lives.

sure it a fungi and not just something growing deprived of sunlight?Like Mulberry tree roots?
I wish...I finally bought a Mulberry tree from Stark Brothers because I wanted one so badly. But it's completely on the other side of the property... And only a year old.
However, I did let a local tree service dump their mulch at my place about 2 or 3 years ago. They showed up randomly one day and dumped another load next to my compost. Both the surprise load and the original load had the same stringy orange fungus that grew in both piles as it composted down. They are completely gone now but it's very likely that fungus got mixed into my compost which would explain how it ended up in the garden because I top dress my beds every year.
Does really explain what type of fungi it is though... I'm just hoping it isn't anything toxic or bad for my garden.
Yes, I'm almost positive that it's some type of fungi.sure it a fungi and not just something growing deprived of sunlight?
