What did you do in the garden today?

I pulled a muscle a couple of days ago and all I was doing was bending over to put something in my daughter's dishwasher. I'm 62, will be 63 on the 14 of this month. My back is still sore and I'm having to be extra careful with it.
As soon as you are well, please concider starting a gentle chair yoga exercise routine. Stretching is the only way to keep our older muscles working.

I have been seeing online to stop poisoning rodents to prevent secondary poisoning of owl and other animals. I have been trapping mice this year. I find poison to not be very effective anymore. No moral HighGround just after results. Since thanksgiving I have trapped 60 mice and 3 voles. Satisfying to see results.
After the weather turned cold and they are less likely to leave the house, I put out 2 kinds of poison. About 8 lbs of the bar kind is gone and the different chunk kind they chewed on some.
I have had 2 bucket traps, 2 tin cat repeating and a DZ snap traps. I catch something in them all but still see mice.

Ya, I need to bank water for livestock and us in the morning. I ran out of steam to do it tonight. That also usually keeps us from loosing power. That said, the county has spent weeks butchering trees along the right of way with a shredder, which makes the other trees and partially chewed trees weaker. So ya, trees on lines.

But the sun angle and temperature of 37 on Wednesday should help make that snow sticky and not so blowy.
WOW that blizzard wind was insane. We live right at edge of town in a neighborhood. My 6 ft fence blew over. Broke the big posts off at the base. Praise God that was all the damage done. Hope you made out ok and are safe! They even closed the interstate at our exit. White out conditions....

<double sigh>

4 Feb, 21 Feb -1st and second planting of pepper seeds. Still nothin’ . The best I’ve gotten is sprouted seeds that are still bent over (leaves not popped up yet).

Had to re-order some seeds bc bought enough for single seed per cell sowing this year, followed by single seed next year. Germination good enough for enough plants in the end. Rather than saving money, I had to use next year seeds to re-seed, and now re-purchase a few varieties. GAH! 😩

So, I’ll prep more trays and use a different seed starting mix. The mix I used this year is the same as all previous years mix that has been successful. Ingredients have not changed in the mix. Not sure the issue, but I’ll start fresh. I hope the seeds come quickly.

I’ll probably end up starting tomatoes at the same time. Usually I’ll start peppers, then once they are off heat mats, I’ll start tomatoes and tomatillos.
Sometimes if I plant my seeds to deep they don't have enough energy left to pull themselves out of the soil all the way. Not saying this is why yours is not germinating well it's just what I've found with my own seed starting processes!

I have just put dutch bantams and a pair of guinea fowl in a coop with attached run. I plan to make planters around their run and have not decided what to plant. I need something taller on the south side for shade. loofa or pole beans might be a good choice.
We grow sunflowers and cannas for shade for our girls and so far it's worked well

The winds were really high this morning. It busted open our gate to our backyard and our dogs got out. After several hours, we managed to find one but our other dog is still missing. I'm absolutely beside myself.... 😭😭😭😭 He is afraid of strangers so it is very unlikely he will willingly come to anyone who isn't family. We live close to a busy highway so I'm terrified he's going to be hit by a car... Or shot by someone who thinks he's a wandering stray. Or killed by a coyote or other dog since he's a small dog. I searched for him for 12 hours nonstop until it was after dark and all my gas was gone.

I'm so upset... 😭😭😭😭

I hope you find your dog.

I have great results with classical stretch on PBS.
I'm pert near 70, and I learned in my 50s how important exercising every day is to stay out of pain. 20 reps of sit up, push up, butt lifts, leg lifts, squats, side bends, donkey kicks and more will do wonders to save your body A lot of pain in your old age. Been working so far anyway, promise to tell you if a certain age comes and it no longer works. Lol

It was totally insane!
We started gusting to over 40 at noon and it stayed there until about 7 when we kept gusting over 60, then it bounced all night between 40 and 50 until about 10 this morning. We're on top of a massive bald hill. There was nothing to stop it between me and Mount Rushmore! LOL.

This place is built for wind, so there isn't anything to blow over or rip (until summer when the shade cloths go up).
But HOLY COW - that much wind for almost 24 hours was insane! All the roads down here were shut. Plowing roads this morning was no fun at all.

Although I do have a loose piece of trim that sounded like an alpaca with a kazoo all night. I just cranked up the headphones when I went to bed. LOL
