Yep! Or scalp mow the area and cover it in thick black plastic .. something like they use in ponds.
I did buy some black plastic... Hmmm. I have to actually clear the whole area first though. There's currently a LOT of privet in that area. And some tree with WICKED 2-3" thorns that I'm going to have to cut down with a chainsaw. I thought it was a dogwood sapling last year and clearly I failed to notice the thorns. It currently has no leaves so I can't identify it...

Anyway, point being that I have a lot of work ahead of me still before I can put down plastic to even try to kill it.

I have some Round Up but I REALLY don't want to use it because it's nasty stuff... Never thought about injecting it into the plant. I wonder if I'd have to do that every few inches since this crap roots itself so profusely... 🤔
I know it's horrible stuff, but by injecting it you won't be harming the soil. Just make sure to use good protection on yourself, and use it late in the day and before the weather starts getting too warm. I used it on mature privet. Drill a hole and syringe it in. .. I love hearing privet scream lol

Could the little black bugs be aphids? A spray from the hose will blast them off if so.
I think the ants were mining them. I am not sure what the black bugs are called. Oh, I just checked, the aphids come in variety of colors, including green, black, yellow, brown, red, and even white, depending on the species. Must be aphids.

A couple of Marconi Rosso sweet peppers finally sprouted with my Big Jim sweet peppers on rock wool cubes. On my first failed attempt with rock wool, I stuck the Marconi pepper seeds tight into the rock wool cubes with a tweezer and had them under a small grow light and heat pad.

On my second attempt with rock wool, I placed the pepper seeds loosely in the premade hole and kept them covered with a black t-shirt with no heat mat and after a few weeks I saw a white root pop out from one of the seeds and moved the seed tray onto a heat mat under a small grow light and now I see green foliage and other seeds sprouting.

I think covering them at room temperature for a few weeks and then moving them to the heat mat under a grow light made a big difference. However, it could also be the way I placed them loosely in the rock wool hole and kept 1/4 inch of the rock wool cubes submerged in water.

I will take out the first sprouted seedling tomorrow, so I can keep the seed tray covered.
