What did you do in the garden today?

I bred most of them. Silver, Brown red, white, buff, black, blue, lavender, cuckoo, lavender cuckoo and started Ermine. Age and health made me give it up. My avatar is a lavender cuckoo I created. If you read the history of the breed I am in there. Ameraucana alliance.
That is so cool! Do you have some photos of your creations?

My BYC avatar photo is of our Blue Wheaten Ameraucana "Taffy" from over a decade ago.

I was in the garden most of the day yesterday, no hat, no sun cream for protection. We have very strong sun over here...high rate of skin cancer in Australia, I remember that always, but just lazy to do it. Must do it today.

Happy gardening all!

I wonder if high rate of skin cancer is more due to chemicals people put on their skin. skin must breathe. ok, I am old enough to know that sunshine is not as it used to be but I prefer to avoid it from 1 pm to about 5 pm.

It rained all night here and lightly all day! We needed dit so badly! What a blessing. Walked through the garden with my raincoat and did a little list making. Transplanted volunteers since it's the perfect day for that. If you want to grow pumpkins but don't want to worry about squash vine borers I've had great luck with Long Island Cheese pumpkin. They have a thick stem not hollow. So borers can't bite into them..I can pumpkin puree from them and they are delicious.
Great info! Supposedly all curcurbita moschata pumpkin/gourd varieties are recommended as SVB resistant. Includes Long Island Cheese pumpkin, Butternut, Honeynut, to name a few.

Anyone on here w/ experience planting parsnip seeds? photos?
Yes, I work in a seed company, I know how to germinate many seeds.
Basically what you want to do is sow them every two centimeters in a VERY shallow hole, or even just sprinkle them like salt where you want them to grow. Make sure the soil is moist and cover with a TRANSPARENT nylon, open every couple of days to make sure the moisture is right, if not, water a bit. The seeds should germinate within two to three weeks. If you have too many baby parsnips, you should snip the extra off, they need to be around five cm away from each other.
Since germination time is long, you should check that the soils has just the right moisture content , otherwise the seeds may rot.
Good luck

Is it better in container pots for better pampered moisture control or better in a raised garden bed? I've done carrots before but in-ground. Are parsnips good thru the winter? Our winters are mild, no snow.

I did some hoeing and weeding this morning. We have our first baby cucumber! Pickling right around the corner! We have fresh dill so I will try some sprigs in the dill this year.
Anyone have problems w tomatoes after transplanting? We have some dramatic beefsteaks! They’re like, I’m going die!! 😂 🤔
Also picked a bouquet of flowers. Daisy checking them out.
