What did you do in the garden today?

My cantaloupe have just sprouted. I need to get better at timing my plantings

To be fair the seeds were taken from a store bought melon which we never have
I guess it’s a good thing that I have no expectations of getting any fruit. The main reason for planting them was to just get a fast growing plant that adds more roots into the soil and give me some greens for the compost

I get mine from Amazon.

Haha. Well, that wasn't my intent. I was curious myself about how much a homemade bread loaf was costing me. Now if I upgraded from cheap all purpose flour to a high protein/gluten bread flour the cost would be quite a bit more. But as long as I can cut off a couple slices and use it for a sandwich it's good enough for me. LOL

Today's harvest, a pair of zucchinis and about a pound, cleaned and trimmed, of baby carrots I had to thin out of the patch. They're from one to three inches long, bite size. The chickens got the tops.

My cost calculation includes the extra cost of King Arthur bread flour. Cha-ching!

Thank you!!!! Such a better deal than the little 4 oz jars of fleichmanns yeast I usually buy. Going to order some now. That Sams club price is good, but not when I factor in a membership cost into it. Plus Amazon will send it to my door, not having to deal with traffic, other shoppers, and lines.... priceless!

I absolutely did that this year!!! I've only ever grown indeterminates so I just went about it, business as usual, single leader etc. OOOPS. More than half my plants are determinate.
Well thank you for making me feel not so alone. 😂 I think about half of mine are also determinate.
I found 3 ripe habanero peppers! This is the earliest I've seen them. I picked those, some jalapenos, and some more tomatoes. Hubby will make and I will can salsa tomorrow!
I think habaneros are the only peppers I haven't seen yet, I need to take a better look and find out why. 🤔

I was cleaning the coops out - major clean out with the leaf blower, tyvek suit, n95 mask - all that, on my way to the compost I dropped the shovel from the tractor & looked down for a sec to make sure I didn't run it over, when I did the tiniest bit of tractor bucket clipped the open shed door & ripped it clean off. :lau I called DH at work & couldn't stop laughing trying to explain why he'd need his carpenter tools.

Anyway, coops are spotless! Harvested a bunch of eggplant, greenbeans, strawberies, peppers, carrots. Pulled most of the onions & put them in the shop to dry. Disappointing onion season this year - too much rain.
