What did you do in the garden today?

My cantaloupe have just sprouted. I need to get better at timing my plantings

To be fair the seeds were taken from a store bought melon which we never have
For what its worth we planted our cantaloupe, watermelon, and cucumbers on the 28th of April. The cucumbers are just about done, the cantaloupe are overloading us daily and the watermelons are just starting to get harvested…..we are in zone 7B.

Thank you!!!! Such a better deal than the little 4 oz jars of fleichmanns yeast I usually buy. Going to order some now. That Sams club price is good, but not when I factor in a membership cost into it. Plus Amazon will send it to my door, not having to deal with traffic, other shoppers, and lines.... priceless!
Yeah, the $50.00 membership does change the equation when it comes to prices. But, in my case the bulk of my bulk buying, well all of my bulk buying, is done at Sam’s so the membership fee is nearly irrelevant against the amount I buy. Still $50.00…..for what?…..the privilege to give them your money?

This evening the temp dropped back below 80 degrees around 7 pm. With 2 hours of daylight left, I took advantage to start working on the hoop house clean out. Got about a third of the way done... After getting bitten by fire ants half a dozen times, I switched into my muck boots and sprayed the heck out of my boots with OFF! Tomorrow morning will be in the upper 60s so I will hopefully finish it early before it heats up too much. Going to seed some broccoli, carrots, lettuce, and maybe some zucchini.... Haven't decided on the last one yet.

No, I don't buy bread. All purpose flour is usually bought on sale. An 8 dollar, one pound bag of yeast is enough for over two years of bread baking. Cheap electricity here, 7cents per kWh, and the machine uses roughly 1.5kWh to make a loaf, a dime. A little salt and sugar, maybe some vegetable oil, but yesterday I used pork grease I saved from roasting a shoulder. I estimate a single 1.5 pound loaf sets me back around 75 cents.
Electricity here is 32¢ a kWh. 39¢ during peak hours. This is why I put in a 12kW solar array on the roof. Going to put up another one, with batteries and a generator and cut grid tie in a few years.
