What did you do in the garden today?

I am happy to report that my feet biting spoiled male chicks are not man eaters. I used to hold them once a day while they were chicks and stopped after I took them outside. Whenever I went outside, they would run up to me and bite my feet to let me know that they were hungry. I corrected that behavior by knocking their heads with a plastic bottle. Now as they are 3 months old, I can walk pass them without any issues.

The hens are still chasing them around and they sleep in another open-door coop. I saw them in the main coop this evening, but they got chased out. I think they will stage a coup d'état next month when their hormones kick in.

I am rooting for them.

a hawk tried to pick up an indian runner duck. a stampede (about 40 ducks) chased him away. I wonder if he could have lifted any duck as he was about the same size or smaller. in 2 years only 1 small silkie disappeared so I guess a hawk got her. I don't keep silkies and bantams any more. better safe than sorry. young birds are contained.

only watering today.
