What did you do in the garden today?

@Mama Runner my FIL, think Ziggy, once poured something into a pond to kill the skeeters and he smoked cigars at the time.
He tapped off the ashes into the water without thinking and it went up in flames :lau

Seriously though, stay safely away

Bet it killed the skeeters. :lau

Yesterday, I used the crock pot to infuse plantain and sage into olive oil, and Jewel weed into coconut oil in 2 separate jars. This morning, i strained them through cheese cloth. They are in the fridge, hopefully to solidify. Then, I'll knock the block out of the bowl, wipe any moisture off the bottom of the block, and add the melted bees wax and other ingredients to finish my PI Jewel weed salve. So hoping that stuff solidifies in the fridge! If not, I just might freeze it! Chopping that bees wax was very hard to do.

@lazy gardener I used a similar method for butt balm for my grandkids. I love making homemade salves. Beeswax is easier to chop if you leave in the sun for a bit to warm up.
Do you make other salves? I'm waiting for my beeswax to get here to make one for winter dryness. Trying comfrey, plantain, calendula and yarrow in this one.

Good idea about the sun. Have you made the comfrey/plantain/calendula/yarrow one before. I have plenty of comfrey, plantain and calendula. No yarrow, but bet I could find some. What do you like about that particular blend? What do you use as a carrier oil?

I'd love your "recipe". Do you dry the herbs first?

Next time I chop bees wax, I just might put it in the sun in a black plastic bag. I hate how it messes up my knife. I was thinking about wiping the blade with olive oil first. Have you tried that?

No, I've only made salve once. (last year) Used the same recipe. I will also put Tea tree oil and Vitamin E in it. My 92 y.o. Dad says it's the best thing he's ever found for his dry skin patches.

I have also been making my own laundry detergent for 2+ years. Never intend to buy laundry detergent again! I think hubby just ordered a stainless steel paint stirrer for me, as my immersion blender is too short to reach to the bottom of the 5 G. bucket.

My husband loves making laundry detergent, so i told him go for it. Our new washing machine has strange detergent requirements because it uses little water.
