What did you do in the garden today?

I use oak. Not sure about pine. Neighbor burns pine and I've used some of theirs.
I will have lots of hardwood ash this winter from the woodstove. Right now we are clearing space for the goat shed so lots of pine trash logs in the woods that have laid there rotting. We are cleaning up to reduce fire risk too. And it just looks so much better without dead trees laying around.
I never did get my plants in today, i got sucked in to finding kindling wood and raking leaves to get rid of. Maybe tomorrow.

Wow, beautiful setting that

Watered yesterday. Sort of garden related, tonight I spoke at an Eagle Scout Ceremony this evening. The young person being honored did his project in the Community Garden I belong to. This 13 year old built enclosed message boards, new signs, tool racks, built a table with a shade cover then tied a bow on the whole thing by placing a kid sized tool rack complete with kid size garden tools. Every weekend since he completed his project I see kids rush through the gate to grab a tool to help in the garden.

Next time you see this scout, give him a huge hug from me. It does my heart good to know that there is a NEXT GENERATION of responsible youth coming along to take our places. Even more important is that this young man sees the value of being a mentor and influencing the youngsters following in his footsteps! Kudos, and a huge round of applause from Maine at Lattitude 44.5!

I'm watering the lemon tree. Cut all the dead branches off the potato bushes, they'll fill in nicely before frost and I don't have to cover them. Just trim off the dead stuff in spring. Love those things! Got the area for pavers leveled, going for paver sand in the morning.

Will water the apple tree and get the compost pile wet yet again.

Hubs is going to bbq a bunch of stuff and I'm making applesauce and processed 2 more pumpkins.

Compost those leaves for your spring garden....some of those trash logs would make an enclosure for the leaves and could be disposed of in the spring by placing them where water erodes near the woods edge.

I have a compost bin made of pallets and we have 13 acres of leaves so no shortage of those. I hope to put a lot in the chicken runs, and maybe bag some up. Good idea, though.
