What did you do in the garden today?

I am looking at some reduced Echinacea plants. $3 each. Seems cheap. The one i had got munched off by some critter. Might be worth a try since they are perennials.

I would grab them. But I grab anything that can be used as medicine or food! I grow various types of it all over the place. $3.00 is a great price on it. I even have some in large pots up on things so turkeys and ducks can't get to it.

Isn't that a tiny yellow flower on there?

Yes to the yellow flower here’s another. This plant is in the chicken coop. Nothing eating it.

Today I put a support string line in for the thornless blackberry that I planted a month or two ago. The vines are three feet tall now. The four slips haven’t been planted yet. Also took out one plant and one more tomato needs to come out. However the lighting project inside comes first. Lucky to get what I did in the garden done today.

I would not spend the money on the Echinacea unless it is a dwarf/pretty hybrid with an unusual color. If it's the usual tall purple(ish) common variety, they are a dime a dozen, and grow like weeds. (ie. You can most likely get them from a friend who has a flower garden.) They are very easy to start from seed.

Today, I dodged a bullet in the garden. Killing frost everywhere. My lawn was white, squash leaves doing the black wilt of death every where we drove this morning. Yet, my garden not touched. It's gonna be warm for the next few nights, so I can get enough tomatoes harvested to make a big batch of canned tomato soup concentrate.

I'm cooking down about 7 qt of apple sauce. Fruit flies are horrid in my kitchen right now. Have some tomatoes here that need to be processed also. After the next couple batches of tomatoes are processed, fruit flies should be done as well.

I got 3, now i just need to plant them. And they are yellow, my favorite!

I watered the garden and flowers. The marigolds in my raised beds are doing great, the ones in my flower bed got eaten or died off. I might have to fence in the flower garden.
We worked on the 20x10 chicken run today. All the panels are assembled and about 1/3 of the roof is done. I need some materials to finish up. Can hardly wait to see those young chickens running around!
