What did you do in the garden today?

We got rain yesterday. A whole 0.01 inches (it was probably less than that).
We’ve been going about 2 weeks in between rains with measurable amounts since mid-late July. All the plants around here are adapted to rain every few days and are really suffering. It’s sad seeing all of the trees with droopy leaves

I have to say I’ve never been more happy for a forecast looking like this

No rain in the forecast, although the weather folks we will get some this coming week. It’s going to drop into the low 40’s overnight so I picked my little yellow squash. Also picked a pound of green beans yesterday and another pound of oversized green beans this morning. I absolutely despise artificial sweeteners and stevia. They all are too sweet and leave a nasty aftertaste. I finally found a toothpaste that doesn’t use artificial sweeteners- Burts Bees. Just a hint of sucrose. I measure regular sugar for my coffee. I use 3/4 teaspoon in a 12 ounce cup of joe. Top it off with half and half. Nothing artificial. Sometimes less is more.

My strawberries are throwing out runners. These ones are from native seeds, but since they’re making extra plants anyway and I’m a little paranoid after losing my previous (admittedly unknown variety) strawberry plants over the last winter, I set a few pots under them to root them. If it works they’ll go inside until spring as insurance, in case the outdoor plants die off again.

Pulled one of the huckleberry bushes. Not because it was done fruiting, it was in full bloom for another round of berries, but I needed to start getting manure in the beds. Doing a lot of sifting of compost for fall planting, and building new compost piles for spring planting. The new garlic I ordered arrived today, but don't want to plant it til october. Also got my new container blueberry bush. I potted it up, but it arrived with black spot on it. My go to with fungal issues has always been baking soda, water, with a little bit of soap to hold it on. Afraid to use that on a high acid plant like blueberries. What do you all recommend?
