What did you do in the garden today?

I have to use liquid laundry detergent: hard water here, and front loader, so no powder for me. As for being cheaper: I can make a years worth of laundry detergent for a fraction of the cost of a single jug of store brand liquid. And IMO, the home made stuff is far better. Does a great job cleaning, no fragrances to upset my breathing... though I have to make it outside b/c the smell is very strong when melting the soap, and mixing it up.

Now, has anyone found a home made recipe for dish washer detergent that they like?

I like grapefruit seed extract and a little liquid castile soap for the dishwasher. You can buy it in liquid form, or grate a bar, melt in water and keep in a squirt bottle. I add 1 or 2 T with 10 to 20 drops gse for a load depending on how dirty the dishes are/grease factor.

I got a bit of work done on the hoop coop today.

We can still buy boxes but with a front load we buy liquid

@potato chip we can get laundry detergent in boxes and bags in powdered form. I like the liquid myself.

Ah, gotcha, thanks for the clarification. My (new) front loader can take powder or liquid BUT it's also got this automatic detergent dosing system in it. You just put these big plastic containers in the bottom and it adds the right amount depending on what you tell it about how dirty the load is.
I think when I investigated it (way back in the annals of time) that liquid was more expensive than powder, so I'd always stuck with powder before getting this space-age thingie. I also never used as much as they say on the packet. We had a consumer testing magazine and they tested all the detergents to say which ones were good and they said you don't need as much as they say, it'll wash perfectly with a bit less.
Making your own sounds VERY economical.

I made scratch lasagna, it was horrible. Store didn't have my usual noodles, never again will I substitute.

It's 2 AM and I'm waiting for the sun to peek over the horizon so I can get outside. Going to move some rocks and get a load of stuff in the wheel barrow to move over by the trash so it can go out next week. Mostly old painted 2x2s we've recycled so many times they're falling apart. Don't want the paint burning in my fire pit...found chickens in there rooting through the ashes. Throwing the chickens a whole pumpkin today.
Also working on the patios...one needs sweeping, the other is a disaster. Need to water also. Have a good day all :frow
