What did you do in the garden today?

Picked out about 10 more 5 gallon buckets of rocks and still not done. That's not including the 50 I picked out last yr. Gotta love tennessee soil. Tomorrow I'm gonna go and get a trailer full of aged manure from the farmer down the road to ad into it. I figure in about 5 years I'll have perfect soil.

Plan on making some trellis tomorrow for for my cucumber and bean plants to run up. I'll probably plant the seed in a week or two.

Only thing I've picked here in the Mohawk Valley is a tick off the dog! Winter sown plants are coming along, stuff under the lights looking great (so need a green house). Uncovered the herb and flower beds, evened out the vegetable beds. Clay soil makes you do crazy things: sneaking around town two a.m. gathering grass clippings and bags of leaves, cleaning up Amish horse poo in parking lots, 12 rabbits for their black gold, bring home compost from work. Now the garden needs chickens to turn compost over and to eat bugs, oh yes a duck to win the war against evil slimy slugs.

I want to do this...whatcha think?

I have this mound next to rabbitry. It's not going anywhere and drops off the back of the mound pretty steep. The vines/weeds are relentless here :(

I also have a pile of spent rabbit hay. We burn it, chop n compost, cover crops but still have loads of it. Can I "mulch" this mound deep and keep from having to weed whack it every other day? Or would it be like feeding them? Lol

today i watered my onions and carrots that i have in containers. Some time today i'm going to move my mini greenhouse back outside since the weathers deciding to cooperate again. And all water all the seedlings i have in it also.

I'd put mint there! It's a strong plant, very hardy, and can hold it's own against weeds. Be aware though, it can become invasive if given a chance. You may want to put a barrier around it.

Angelicici: I'm not sure what mound you're talking about. But I keep my garden under a hay mulch year round. the secret is to keep it nice and thick. If it's too thin, it becomes a weed haven. It slowly... or quickly (depending on your perspective) rots into the soil, feeding the worms, and enriching the soil, holds the moisture, but doesn't allow the frost to penetrate as deeply in the fall, so you can get into the soil for an extra early start on the garden season. Check out any of the writings by Ruth Stout for a full description of the method. I would not recommend planting mint any where you can't get around it with a lawn mower. Mint, as wonderful as it is... is an incredibly invasive plant.

I should have weeded.
But I didn't.
I propagated herbs. I am going to have a lot of herbs.

Weeding is like exam time. You get every household chore done that you can possibly do in order not to study.
"Can't study, the dishes need to be reorganized.'
Can't weed, Those herbs won't root themselves..." but they actually do don't they?

OMG, my head is throbbing from a head cold, my hurt back is now worse and now I can't walk... I did get the lettuce, cilantro, dill, basil, broccoli, arugula in.... I hurt so much!!!

Oh, did I mention...Gardening sucks! lol
