Well I guess I'll just give it a shot. Not like I can plant a productive patch but a few would be a nice addition to my flower beds as ground cover...
Most of the time my wild transplants do well...
Oh I can't wait to go fern hunting.... I have a thing about ferns.... And Lilly's and and and...

Thanks Hennible for another source of companion p lanting. I would like to make use of every square inch of what I have available for planting.

I did a mock up this morning, and while it sure seems crowded, I"m going to give it a shot. Seems some folks think it cuts back on weeding if the small spaces are filled with a useful edible. I'm game to try. lol

Choking out weeds with crops I want, and using every bit of space as best I can...
So far it seems to work, not perfectly in the weed department but still helpful... I sure figure more out each season. Craming lots in can make harvesting a pain though. Lol

My trees arrived yesterday. I believe there are 15 of them. What on earth was I thinking? The instructions say that they should be planted right away. I'm totally incapable of processing that information when I look out the window! (still more than a foot of snow on the ground.) The best idea I can come up with is to buy an other bale of Pro-Mix, and pot them up. I have 2 huge mountains of slash, that are still buried under snow that need to be burned before I can even think about planting those trees. If the weather had cooperated last fall, we could have burned last fall...

I feel pretty silly down here in the deep south but we have not had three days without rain since February. I have been working on my fish ponds and decided to plant a few tomatoes in the pond water. I bought some plastic hardware cloth and zip ties and made baskets to put the maters in and put rocks in the bottom for weight and old hay to keep the plants straight and just zip tied them to the sides of my green water fish tank "aka swimming pool". Then we went on another plant search and found some flag Iris and water mint to use as a filter. We also dug up some cattails. I have a cement pond and my new "plant filter" is working fine so far. No green water in that tank yet....but with this Alabama sun who knows?

My dirt garden just sits there.

I also did some broccoli the same way...in the water.

I put some compost on my plants! And It's getting too cold to grow pumpkins in Australia so I put lots of mirrors around my plants to direct the sun onto them!

I'm getting excited to finally get the garden space cleared out tomorrow! We're planning on burning the brush off and then clearing out the remaining sparse grass. If all goes well, we should have an open space for the garden by early afternoon!

When do you guys transplant? It's more than warm enough here in Florida and we started the seeds three weeks ago, but they starts just don't seem big enough. We are going to add a bit of fertilizer to the small cups we have them started in tonight.

I'm also concerned about our neighbor's free-range chickens killing them. They are working on building them an enclosed area, but in the meantime they range all across our lots.
